I always found this scene from The Shining chilling:

Watching the inside story of Silence of the Lambs on TV right now, and it reminded me of this shot that always stuck with me. Both for the imagery, and the sheer horror of it.

a) just such a great resolution for these characters, and it was beautifully done by Jackson

b) when the black gate opens up and you realize the sacrifice that they're ready to make for frodo and sam. this instant to where aragorn runs in, followed by merry and pippin, i get chills every single time


this scene scared the CRAP outta me as a kid
