I am looking for something to start watching from the beginning. I was a huge Lost fan and I only watched the first season of Dexter but I liked it. I like history, dark comedy, conspiracy. I have to be drawn in. Some shows I have eyed are Breaking Bad, The Wire (maybe), and The Sopranos (I know it ended)

Thoughts?

Its awesome. Have you even seen a bad post about it? Just get on Amazon and buy the series for $100. Its worth it. I've watched the series 3 or 4 times and it just keeps getting better.

I consider The Wire to be the best series I've ever seen....and I've seen A LOT. I was hooked from the first episode but some people need to fight through the first 2-3 episodes to really get into it and be familiar with all the characters. It's not a show that wraps up each episode in a nice little bow for the viewer to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

The Wire is probably my favorite show of all time. Just reading this thread makes me want to watch it again from start to finish. Pick up the complete series and I promise you that you won't be disappointed.

The Sopranos all the way. The show won 21 freakin' Emmys and was nominated over 100 times!

It's the best show ever made.

and regarding The Wire, I'm curious. How far into this show does it pick up?

About a year ago I watched the first half of the first season (after I watched the entire Sopranos series for the 3rd time) and I just got a little bored with it. I just wasn't that interested in the cops...Does it focus less on them as the series goes on?

The Wire is awesome. You should watch it.

But you need to watch The Sopranos first. It is so damn brilliant that I'm jealous you get to watch it for the first time.

The Wire is great. One of those shows that takes 15 minutes or so to get back into your settings as far as Wow! factor.

It's development and multiple story lines plus ruthlessness are awesome.

I read this whole thread and still have no idea what The Wire is about.

Keep watching Dexter
Entourage (I'm a newbie and only up to season 4 right now but I watched 12 hours of it this weekend. I didn't really know it was about when I started. I knew it had something to do with agents but I thought it was sports agents. I'm smart)

Heres what you do:
Get the Wire, hold on to it. Watch all of OZ (6 seasons). Then watch the Wire.
Then watch Mad Men , Breaking Bad. You can't go wrong.

Still need a fix, watch the Shield or mebbe Battlestar Galactica.

Then Your good.

I recommend watching The Shield, Breaking Bad, and 24 from start to finish. If you don't want to watch all of 24 right away, at least watch seasons 1, 2, and 3 because they are the best.

I personally haven't seen The Wire, but I've heard great things about it, and I'll be buying it soon.
