I think that's my biggest complaint going into it, but I think it plays better to a younger audience. 2:20, way too long.

But...
I'm getting the original and putting it on my phone for my son. He's seen bits and pieces, but not the whole thing.

Ok...so I'm watching the original...

Kick ass bike for 1984. Mountain Bikes weren't that common, and it was the first I had ever seen like that.

The grips on the bike are what I need to restore my 1984 Diamond Back Viper. The company that makes them has the mold, but not haven't produced them in years.

this remake sucked balls

here are the big updates to it:
black kid
set in china
kung fu instead of karate

everything else is the same. the dialog, the story development, everything...

worst remake i've ever seen. zero creativity

I enjoyed it....almost felt like a mixture of Karate Kid 1 and 2 (the one where he goes to Okinawa).

I'll put it this way....I wasn't upset that I spent the money on it. And FWIW, the original is one of my 5 favorite movies of all time.

Um, all of that was obvious from the preview. You HAD to have known it was a black kid, in China, and following the same basic story as the original. And knowing that, if you were going to criticize the movie for being a remake (which it was very upfront about- after all, it named itself "The Karate Kid", why did you even see it? Was it just so you could go on the internet and complain about how unoriginal it was? Because no one claimed it was original. Something can still be entertaining without being original (see: every single hit movie, song, or t.v. show in the last 10 years. NOTHING is original).

It'd be like redoing The Goonies or Back to the Future.

I would take my whole platoon to hollywood and burn it to the ground if this ever happened

So, we finally watched it.

Wow... they didn't even change some of the lines.

Plot was point by point with the original, except they added the subplot with the girl and music.

It was nice the towheaded boy didn't do a Freddy Fernandez.

I think it would've played out better if the main character was 14 as opposed to 12. There is no way any of the other kids were 12.

Jaden seems to almost imitate his dad when he's acting. I wonder if it's genetics or choice.

Jaden is definately an athlete.

It was very violent compared to the original.

It didn't seem to be as moving at the end when he won. I wonder if it was because everyone was ready to leave the theatre. (way too long.)

Horner's score was similar to his other works, namely Apollo 13 and Field of Dreams. There was one strking note he uses both in Apollo 13 and Field of Dreams.

Cinemtography was great.

Is it just me, or does every movie bully look and act exactly the same? It was even like when Lupus got put in the trash can in 1976.

And it didn't help taking a 5 year old that couldn't read and having to watch it thru subtitles.

And of course, i had to answer 100x's how he did that at the end.

watty, i saw it b/c we were too late to the a-team. i thought my wife had already seen the original...so who cares if we see this new spin on it

problem is, there was ZERO spin on it other than what i listed. it was a pisspoor effort. and i still look forward to an italian remake of the fresh prince of bellair...dumbass will smith didn't impress me with this one. his boy is talented, but this movie had no heart.

and rudy, that's exactly what you're talking about re: the bullies. you don't really understand the personal drama b/c it was not well developed...whereas in the original, you either f-ing hate johnny or you like him b/c he's a complete ass and it's enjoyable. but at least the audience understands all the different dynamics. the original was GREAT.

No...bullies are bullies. That part was clear. He just reminded me so much of someone, I just can't think of whom.

ah, you mean from another movie. got it

so you're saying an asian guy reminds you of someone else?

Yeah...completely. He played the part perfectly, that the bullying was universal.

Trey Parker > LaRusso. It's not his fault he was too young for the role.

Miyagi > Mr. Han. But Jackie Chan had the Kung Fu.

Ali > China Girl. It might help that Eliabeth Shue was of age.

Johnny Lawrence > Chinese Bully: But the kung fu was better than Johnny's Karate.

Bobby& Dutch > Chinese Gang: I believed Bobby better than his counterpart when he had to sweep the leg. But I will say, the Chinese kid did more damage. Triva: The guy that plays Bobby is 2-time world champion, five-time international self-defense champion, 6th degree black-belt, United States Ju-Jitsu Team Trainer.

Tommy=Tommy: Sadly, there is no one as annoying as Tommy.
