Damn it , Old army, I was about to post that! That may be one of my favorite TVZ songs. However, the OP has some kind of grudge against TVZ, so will likely discount it.

Have a Cigar by Pink Floyd
This Note's for You - Neil Young
Longstreet
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Not a prostitute, but does a song about a club dancer count?

"Main Street", Bob Seger. The lead guitar is haunting.

"Mexican Blackbird" - ZZ Top.

Gotta be the winner. Such a great song. Of course, it's as politically incorrect as a song can be, which explains its lack of FM radio airplay.

Whether its qualifies for this thread or not, I don't know, but that's a great song. Seger's "Greatest Hits" is one of my favorite all-time albums. That song, "Night Moves," "Still the Same," "We've Got Tonight," "Against the Wind," "Turn the Page," that album is full of infinite replayability.

There is a guitar solo in the middle of Bob Seger's "Main Street," but the haunting, high pitched, piercing instumental solo, at the start, the end and after each verse that Longstreet may be referring to, was on a soprano saxophone played by Silver Band member Alto Reed all three times I saw them in concert.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGJpU-4nJI4&feature=related

It sounds like a guitar on the record, but Alto Reed's web page gives him credit for "the haunting, desolate lament of 'Main Street'."

Whoever said half of these songs aren't about prostitutes is right. Half of them aren't. Just because a song's about a woman of low moral virtue, or a chick who hangs out in bars all the time, but doesn't actually sell sex, doesn't mean it's about a literal prostitute. To further complicate matters, some of the songs listed here are old fashioned "pining for a chick I can't get/ unrequested love" songs and not even about easy women at all. There are some songs that are really about professional *****s, but y'all are just ****ing this list up!

Dave Alvin 'Out of Control'

quote:
I scored some speed in San Berdino
So me and baby could get a little bump
And now she’s in that motel room
Puttin’ on a show for some chump
Yeah, well baby’s gotta make a livin’
And I don’t mind waitin’ out in the car
‘Cause I got some nine millimeter muscle
In case things go too far.

You know I try to take it easy man
And just go with the flow
But sometimes things can get a little bit
Out of control.

quote:
When baby gets done in there I’m gonna
Take her for a little ride
Cruise up into the mountains
Park the car and get a little high
‘Cause baby likes to look at the shootin’ stars
And make wishes as they fly by
And I like lookin’ down at the city
From way up there in the sky.

Then I pull baby close to me
When it starts gettin’ cold
Close my eyes for a little while and let the world
Spin out of control.

IMO, the 'winner' is San Francisco Mabel Joy/Mickey Newbury...if for no other reason than this line:

"Destitution's child, born on an L.A. street called Shame"

Sorry, the best one isn't on any of these posts. It's "Not That Kind Of Girl" by Die Happy.

Go to the samples section.

Dancing in the spotlight
Twisting, turning all night
I don't really care
What you wanna do, what you wanna do with me
Standing in the moonlight
Waiting, walking all night
I don't want to know
What you wanna do, what you wanna do with me
'Cause I am what I am

According to the story I heard him tell at a show, Black Rose is indeed about a working gal.
