Not a great episode last night. Two comments.

1. Why was Kelso working in the hospital? Did I forget something that happened last week? I thought he was still gone.

2. I can't stand Dr. Cox's son. I don't think he is cute in the slightest. He has freaky eyes and looks like Damien the son of Satan to me.

It was very confusing. I had heard that LaVerne was coming back, too, and there she was in that episode but I don't remember anything explaining this. I assume that the episodes just got jumbled up with the strike and with the show switching networks they just decided to put on the best conclusion episode.

Honestly, I wish the show had just been finished out this season on NBC. It has been weak all season and it is really going to be running on fumes next year.

La Verne wa mentioned in an episode this season. They had her come back but it was a new nurse that just happened to look exactly like her.

I'm sure that Kelso was still there because they had to film and broadcast some things out of order. This happened last year (or two years ago, I forget) when Cox's head went back and forth from shaved to not shaved. It's a little continuity problem that we just have to live with. I think it's because they had already planned that fairy tale episode from the beginning, but when the strike shortened the season, they were forced to start wrapping up some things and just had to make the sacrifice of showing them out of order. Can be confusing, but not that big a deal in the long run. I'm sure on the DVD's they'll reverse the order to make it fit better.

As for Laverne, that's not Laverne. They had an episode a while back where a new nurse that looked just like Laverne came on staff. JD's nickname for her was Lavernagain because he couldn't remember her real name.

I think this season has been awesome, and last night was good, though maybe not as good as I hoped. They set the bar high for their "special" episodes with the musical last year, which will never be topped.

Overall, the show is still strong though. It's just more narrow, in my opinion, taking most of their jokes from the same places (JD's girliness, his relationship with Brown Bear, etc), but those jokes are still funny.

This was all NBC. They pulled the episode out of sequence, because it was bigger (biggest budget ever for a Scrubs episode, even the musical), and so more like a "finale". They should have left it alone, last week's Kelso send-off was excellent and should have been the season finale. Typical treatment by NBC of it's ******* step-child. Hopefully biological parent ABC will give it the treatment it deserves for what I can only hope will be a glorious, focused, final 18 episode run.

i think it's kinda bad how (i can only imagine) nbc has seemed to dog 'scrubs.' this episode plus the fact that it's one of the few broadcast sitcoms i know of that's not it hd is kinda crappy. hopefully, it will get new life on abc.

it's good that everyone finds themselves in the same particular circumstance of not giving a rat's a what you think. the general board might like reading that crap you spew, so you should proably keep posting it there.

or you could find yourself in the familiar territory of writing garbage on this forum every now and again knowing full well that your opinion will have the same value as that of a 2 year old discussing astronomy.

eh, this season has been mostly a disappointment. Lavernagain is believe is Laverne's sister Shirley. I know she is married to the writer or some VIP on the show but they need to can the actress who plays Jordan; her plastic surgery made her look scary yet somewhat believeable for her character. This show has been as unoriginal as the new family guy lately and in my opinion, will never be as good as it was when Brendan Fraser guested on it.

I swear the boy is Jordan's real son. There is a very strong resemblance.

Since it's going to be on ABC now, will they finally start filming it in HD (since it's not owned by one network and shown on the other)?

She's married to the shows creator, Bill Lawrence...I don't think shes too bad, I enjoy the smartass interaction between her and everybody...

I wish Zach Braff would tone down the "silliness" of JD, but overall I've enjoyed this season

The son on the show is the son of Christa Miller and show creator Bill Lawrence. I do find him a little annoying sometimes, but overall he does a good job with what looks like no formal training.

On the subject of this season being "awesome", I'm sorry but this season has fallen way short, and the worst part is you cannot blame the strike. These last five episodes were written before the strike started, the only saving grace is the fact the show is moving to ABC. Hopefully Billy and the rest of the writers will put together a solid season to end the show right.

I've been a fan since of this show since it started back in 2001, but the past two seasons have been painful to watch at best. The fact is this show peaked with season 5, and it's basically been waiting to be told with either it should end or not each year.

The episode before this last one was the best of the season, imo.

Someone up there said it was a series finale. It's not, it was the last one on NBC.

Not true. The son is played by this actor http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2466341/, who while sharing her maiden name, is not actually the Lawrence's kid. I think they used their real kid in one of Jack's earlier baby appearances, but it has been this other actor since then.

Thanks for the correction 20ag07. I knew Bill & Christa used their son in an earlier episode, but figured they were still using him since about season 5. Man, they found a kid that looks exactly like post-plastic surgery Christa.

I used to think Christa Miller was hot when she was on 'The Drew Carey Show' and also during the first 2 or 3 seasons of 'Scrubs'.

I think it was a really bad idea on her part to go in for a plastic surgery. She looks fake and bad now!

Dear friends,

Many of you have been understandably confused by the Fairy Tale episode of Scrubs serving as the series finale. It was not. I was not allowed to say it until today, but Scrubs will be moving to ABC for its final season. We are currently filming the 8th and final season. The true finale of the show will air on ABC in the fall. NBC merely promoted the Fairy Tale episode as the finale, as it was the last episode they owned.

Also, several of you were very confused by the fact that Dr. Kelso and Laverne were still working at the hospital in the Fairy Tale episode. Because of the writer's strike, the last remaining episodes for NBC were aired out of order. This is why Dr. Kelso was still chief of medicine. That was not Laverne however, for those of you who have been following closely; it was a new nurse "Shirley" who no one thinks looks anything like Laverne except for JD.

Hope this clears some things up.

peace and love,
zb

I am a huge Scrubs fan (I still watch the 6-7pm showings on Comedy Central during the week), but I believe the show jumped the shark the episode JD found out Kim had lied about the miscarriage.

For me the show JTS when they did the RV episode. It's like they threw a bunch of dumb ideas in a hat, drew them out one at a time, and put together the episode.

I'm interested to see how they start out the ABC run. Could we have a "Dallas-esque" dream explaination and just write off all the stupid crap that's happened over season 6 & 7? One could only hope.

The last two seasons haven't been as great as before but the last few episodes (excluding the fairy tale) were pretty good.

I hope they go out with a bang next season.

Great interview with Bill Lawrence. The guy hates NBC (justifiably so), realizes where this show has gone wrong as of late and why it was funny in the first place, and sounds committed to making a great final run.

quote:
Why'd it take so long to announce this thing?
Bill Lawrence: As I understand it, it was legally very important not to say anything officially until after the show had finished its run on NBC.

What led to the break-up with NBC?
Lawrence: When the strike ended, we told NBC that, even though we had another seven episodes mapped out, we could do it in three, and they just didn't have any interest. Total harsh buzz of not giving a s--t about a show that had been on the network for seven years and made them millions of dollars. And I'd be more bitter, except that it worked out good for us.

They didn't want to do any kind of wrap-up?
Lawrence: Not only did they not want to do any kind of wrap-up, but they took an episode that was supposed to air in the middle of the season — the fairytale episode — and marketed it as a series finale. Which was bulls--t. It was never supposed to be a series finale, much less a season finale, and I think it ended up getting judged kind of harshly because of it. If it was just a regular episode that people had tuned into I think they would've thought it was cool and funny.

I was under the impression NBC was willing to give you one episode to finish things off. No?
Lawrence: Well, here's the thing. When the strike ended, NBC said, "You can shoot an hour-long finale, but we'll only pay for half of it." They wanted [ABC Studios] to suck up all the expenses, and ABC said that was unacceptable. And it felt especially harsh because Scrubs was pulling in better [ratings] than 30 Rock and My Name is Earl — even though I love those two shows — and they were encouraged to do as many f--king episodes as they can after the strike. And after seven years, I ask for three episodes to wrap up the series and they say, "Tough s--t."

How do you go from three episodes on NBC to 18 on ABC?
Lawrence: It was weird, man. I was thinking we'd put these last six episodes on DVD, just so we can wrap the show up and be proud of it, but the head of ABC Studios, Mark Pedowitz, said, "Bill, if you can make the show a little cheaper, I can probably get us a full season on ABC." I didn't answer right away. The first thing I did was call the cast and the writers together and I said, "Look, if we're going to do this, we have to get back to something we creatively can all be excited about." Because, personally, I felt like this past season we were less than inspired comedically. So I said to them, "This means you guys working harder. It means having emotional stakes and losing all the goofy, broad stuff that I think is easy to write… " And everyone said they were on board for one more season.

Will the show still be a comedy?
Lawrence: It's still a comedy, but when we first did the show, it was a drama with elements of comedy and lots of stupid sound effects. But some of the strongest episodes in the second and third year had character comedy. You can still do things like kill Brendan Fraser and have the lady that loved musical theater die and then sing a song at the end. This became a very Simpsons-esque show with incredibly broad, unrealistic moments and fantasies that were both in reality and not in reality. When you've been writing this show for seven years, it's so easy to get into these patterns of writing the same jokes over and over: J.D. loves Turk, J.D. wants Dr. Cox's approval, Elliot's whiny and neurotic. But this year the stuff is really f--king good. I think our old stand-by fans are really going to dig these shows.

Is Ken Jenkins (Kelso) still a series regular?
Lawrence: He's still a series regular. The core of his participation this year is with Dr. Cox, who becomes Chief of Medicine. Now that Dr. Kelso is no longer a hospital bureaucrat, he is actually a decent human being and is Dr. Cox's confidant because Cox can't really talk to anyone else about how much that job sucks.

I heard you were looking to cast a new Chief.
Lawrence: That's just a piece of stunt casting that we're going to do for three episodes.

Talk to me about these budget cuts that ABC requested. Are we going to notice anything missing?
Lawrence: No. We have a smaller writing staff and we're filming the show in four-and-a-half days instead of five. And, you'll never notice it because we have so many actors on the show, but every cast member is taking two episodes off.

Even Zach?
Lawrence: Even Zach. Remember, I've done one or two episodes every year where J.D. isn't in the show except for one line, and some other character has the voiceover. It wasn't all that noticeable. It just looks like a cool creative choice.

I swear, NBC most hold the record for f-ing up more shows than any other network. Tell me another case where a network has strong shows like Scrubs, Friday Night Lights, The Black Donnally's, and some could say Journeyman, and NBC feels the need to promote crap like My Dad is Better Than You Dad, and 1 vs. 100, instead of putting time and money into great shows. Any why are they still paying for episodes of ER? That show died a painful death at least 3 years ago, but yet it's still on, and I think I read in USAToday, it's the most expensive show produced on television.

I am glad that Bill recognized that the show has become somewhat of a caricature of what it used to be, and the cast is crew is willing to get back on track for the ABC run.

It was at its height (Clooney's last season), but not anymore. NBC was paying $13M an episode for it. As its gotten older, they keep making it cheaper and cheaper, so NBC keeps bringing it back. The next will be its final season though.
