quote:"Turning Japanese" is about masturbation.

That's an urban legend. The lead singer just liked the sound of the phrase.

quote:
I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of them all round my cell
I want the doctor to take a picture
So I can look at you from inside as well
You've got me turning up and turning down and turning in and turning 'round

No sex, no drugs, no wine, no women
No fun, no sin, no you, no wonder it's dark
Everyone around me is a total stranger
Everyone avoids me like a psyched lone ranger
That's why I'm turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so
Turning Japanese
I think I'm turning Japanese
I really think so

Sounds like jerkin' the gherkin to me!

"Mr Jones and Me" is about his *****
No, it's not.

Mr. Jones is Marty Jones, a friend of Adam's, and is about a night they spent at a bar talking about how if they were big rock stars they could get these two chicks at the bar. Adam specifically denied the ***** story and corrected the record with the proper story on VH1's "Greatest Songs of the 90's." Oh, and here's a link to prove it.

Just recently I found out it's about how Jessica Simpson's Dad, of all people, is the Antichrist by using his daughters for his own success.

The story on Tyler:
quote:
Okay, no real vampire, but is there a real stalker in Tyler, Texas?
"Yeah, I was down there for Thanksgiving, and after the family got
through talking about who died and who's got cancer and all those things that
families talk about, they started talking about this guy who was peeping in
windows and started breaking into people's houses," Lewis recalls.
"Stealing their beer," Darrel interjects.
"He'd go out of his way to be seen. And everyone is like armed to the
teeth, and he's like tapping on windows," Lewis says. "The whole family was
freaked out about it."
"And he became like a folk hero," Herbert exclaims.
"We've always been pro-stalker," quips Lewis.
Laughing, Umbarger adds: "In fact, I'm being stalked right now.
Whenever I go home and go into a store, I'll think someone's following me.
I'll look around and there won't be anyone there, and I'll walk around the
corner and there'll be a kid standing there. He'll be all, 'Uhhh, are you in
the Toadies?' 'Yeah.' 'Okay.' And then he'll leave."
"Sometimes I'll be in the magazine section and I'll think all the
magazines are looking at me," Lewis says, laughing. "I hate that."

How long do you want to ignore this user?
quote:
I find a window in the kitchen,
And I let myself in.
Rummage through the refrigerator,
Find myself a beer.
I can't believe I'm really here
And she's lying in that bed.
I can almost feel her touch
And her anxious breath!

I stumble in the hallway
Outside her bedroom door.
I hear her call out to me.
I hear the fear in her voice.
She pulls the covers tighter.
I press against the door.

I will be with her tonight .

Sounds like attempted rape at the very least.

well they did say they embellished it a little to make it more interesting for the song. But the true story wasnt actaully about rape...that is what I was getting at.

Many people also think Shadow by The Burden Brothers (Lewis from the Toadies) is also about rape/stalkers. I read an interview (no I don't have a link) a few years ago that he states it's actually about his daughter and how he isn't there very often since he's always on the road (and I think he's divorced/not with the mother). He said it was about how he is always with her, even when he isn't physically there.

Songs that have true meaning to them stand out alot more than the songs that are truly just drivel that rhymes. It's a lot harder to write.

A poster above referenced The Grudge by TOOL:
On the surface the song seems pretty open about it's meaning. Maynard seems to be chastising people who hold "grudges" (which can also be interpreted as a steadfast point of belief such as religion), telling them that it's pointless and petty.

Towards the middle of the song Saturn is referenced. Remember that Saturn was king of all the gods and was so worried about being "overthrown", if you will, that he ate his children. All the time he spent looking over his shoulder, he still missed Zues, who eventually killed him. Every 27-29 (I forget which off the top of my head) years Saturn will orbit around the Earth. This is a time for renewal where you can "Hang on or be
Humbled again." In the song Saturn is "Humbled again" because of his stubborness.

Maynard has said in interviews that he doesn't want their songs to be quickly pegged as haveing "one meaning." He wants each listener to take away their own meaning and not let the lyrics override the musical aspects of the song. Analysing TOOL songs is a very difficult task b/c they can have so many different meaning.

Next time really listen to the lyrics of Don't Stand So Close To Me. I know a lot of people who don't realize what that song is about when it's really obvious.

Since the song was written and recorded in 1975 and HIV wasn't really something that was known about until the early 80's, I'd say that's pretty much urban legend.

The country song Strawberry Wine is about statutory rape.

In England, a "fat-bottomed girl" is slang for a prostitute. I guess this could be construed as a f@g hag somehow...
