A question about Aggie Maroon

How long do you want to ignore this user?
So I was looking at the new branding stuff on the University website and the Aggie Maroon looks awfully purple. Has anyone actually seen it? I put it into MSPaint using the RGB values that are in the branding guide and it doesn't look quite the same as on my browser. Could browser settings affect appearance? Or is it only monitor settings?

that depends on how old you computer is... did you get it in the last 10 years? Then your monitor is going to make much more of a difference than your browser.

if you're talking about the tamu.edu site, it still looks very maroon to me

I have a 4 yr old Dell Laptop, and I don't know if the color up on the University website is Aggie Maroon yet or not. I was just referring to what is pictured in the branding guide which is R80:G0:B0.

According to current A&M graphic standards, here are the official color codes for Aggie Maroon:

RGB: 80 0 0
CMYK (coated): 15 100 39 69
CMYK (uncoated): 27 86 60 30
HEX: #500000

For screen work such as web or powerpoints, use the hex code. For print work, use the CMYK code.

HTH.

-- Edit --

Apparently the colors listed on the standards website are different than the ones I was shown a few years back. I changed it to the new ones.

Yeah, I saw that. I was going off of info that I had when I was up there a few years ago. I never bothered to actually check the site, just posted the info I had. Then once I checked the site saw I was wrong.

Thanks for the heads up though!

Is it just me, or did they just change the look of the A&M website like 10 minutes ago?

I don't remember this logo being on the front page.

Yeah, I think they added the Welcome to Aggieland. It is all going to be a gradual transition on the website.

btw, how do you use hex colors in PowerPoint? I only know how to do RGB and HSL.

Looks like I screwed up again. I haven't used PowerPoint in who knows how long so I just assumed they would let you input a hex value since any decent graphics program does.

But I just opened it up and saw they only let you put in RGB and HSL values which is just another reason to avoid Microsoft Office if you can.

I've been using CS2 so much for the past 2 years that I forget how limited other programs really are.

So long story short, you can't use HEX values in PowerPoint and most likely not in any other Office product either. Sorry.
