This does not say "He worked there then owned it in 1996." Regardless of the rest of the paragraph that would seem to imply that (IF it mentioned a date, which it doesn't.) the statement that Layne's was STARTED in 1996 does not allow for the statement that it was STARTED in 1994.

Take your own advice when you're writing something like this.

Don't get me wrong. I love Laynes. But they were by no means the first guys to do those strips with that sauce.

some of you guys are pretty harsh, mike and ashley are really good people and good Ags that support everything A&M. they have given a lot of students the opportunity to work in a great work environment while going to school. it would be nice to return the favor and help mike and ashley out for a change. but instead you turn your back on the little businesses of college station that make the town unique. just don't be surprised when you come back to CS in a few years to find it overun by corporate chains with no personality.

The point ppl are trying to make here is that yes we will support Laynes if we like their food and whatnot, but we don't HAVE to and we don't OWE it to anyone to eat places that are dirty, slow, or have bad service.

I hope they do stay in business. However, if they don't shape up they won't, and guilt trips are not the way to attract snobby college girls who would rather eat somewhere that their butt doesn't stick to the seat.

I have never walked in there...I always used the drive through...what I could see through that little window scared me

the fact that if it is "truly better, it will still be in business in 3 years" is not really the point. the point is that Ags should support other Ags, especially people like mike and ashley that have helped out so many students.

Based on this logic, what happens if the manager or owner of Cane's is an Ag? Quite the conundrum!

Look if the owner of Layne's wants to stay open he needs to CLEAN on a regular basis and have those students he is giving a great environment to work in a mop and bucket.

I like Layne's. HOWEVER, every time one of these threads comes up someone mentions how dirty it is and EVERYONE agrees. I've been in there on a weekday afternoon and every table is dirty. That doesn't exactly scream: PLEASE COME EAT IN MY INVITING RESTAURANT.

Sometimes it is the simplest things that people don't think of. Clearly one of their biggest problems is the perception of it being unclean. And also...greasy spoon, hole in the wall do not need to mean dirty. Especially with a corporate franchise moving in next door to put you out of business.

I don't know which one I'm going to support in the remainder of my time here at A&M, but I do know that this thread is making me terribly hungry.

If they are the exact same, how did an out of town chain copy Layne's? The only thing different about Layne's is that sauce. Is it really original, or was it copied from a different restaurant?

Advertise on Texags. Generate more business. Advertise elsewhere. Generate more business. End of story. One of my employers (small restaurant in town) is considering doing just that after talking with Brandon when he came in to eat.

And Mike and Ashley used to be my landlords. I have no doubt that they will stay in business based on how hard they work at making Layne's one of the best 'little' restaurants in town.

I had Cane's for lunch today here in Houston, and I usually go to Layne's when I'm in CS.

Will I have to flip a coin next time I'm there?

The old Wings 'n More location on Texas. The WnM building was torn down and Raising Caines put up a new building.

I went to Cane's with a group of friends and one of my friends was killed by a bus boy. You know what Cane's managment said? "we can't control one of our employees, if they want to kill someone then it's going to happen". I couldn't believe it. I am never eating there again.

Takeout maybe, but no dine in.

I don't think I will be eating at Layne's again after this whiny little email. Suck it up, beeches.

That being said, I've eaten there once in the 7 years I've lived in College Station.

Honestly, I am going to go to Cane's to try their food. If Layne's still tastes better, I'll probably go there. If Cane's is better, I may go back and forth between the two.

If said little business is filthy and has crappy food, I'm going to the well maintained chain with food I like.

Supporting A&M is great. Supporting A&M at all cost isn't.

And what in the world about Layne's is unique? It's a rundown chicken strip joint. It's not like those are hard to find.
