Hey Friends & Family-
I am sending this email because Mike never would. Some of you may know about the restaurant that is opening 2 doors down from us. I REPEAT 2 DOORS DOWN!!!! They are called Cane's Chicken Fingers. They are the exact same thing as us. Same chicken, same sauce, etc. We opened in April of 1994. They started in 1996.
Are you getting the picture?
Please show your support to Mike and Layne's on June 5th. Go by Layne's and eat, or grab a drink, or just go by and tell him that you support him. Don't eat at Cane's. Cane's (who in my opinion is doing something we would never do to another restaurant), is not locally owned and operated, they do not have our unique atmosphere, they are pretty much your typical big chain. And what they are doing, in the restaurant world, well it's just plain mean!!!
Layne's means everything to Mike. Just a little history..............
Layne's was started in April of 1996 by Michael Layne (AKA Layne). A very unique guy himself, he has very good ideas. One was that of Layne's. So he was the original owner and opened the first ever Layne's of College Station. Off to a rocky start, Layne's did not do well in the beginning, not run very smoothly. But little did everyone know, including Mike Garratt, that would change. Mike was about to graduate high school. He was working at the elementary school behind Layne's for his dad with Garrett Mechanical. They stopped in and ate at this new little restaurant called, you guessed it, Layne's. The food was great, but the outside looked like the Amazon. So Mike got to talking to Layne and told him he would come and weed his flower bed and fix up the yard. So he did. Layne was amazed at how hard Mike worked and told him if he ever needed a job to come back and he would give him one.
So Mike graduated high school and had to give up his lawn business because of college. So he needed a part time job. He went back to Layne's and he gave him the job. Mike was soooooooo good at the restaurant business and managing employees, he was promoted very fast and eventually became part owner. And then took over the whole shabang in 1999.
Layne's has now turned into one of BCS's favorite places to eat and a little of an TAMU icon. The students love it because of the atmosphere and good food. And others because the food really is sooooo goood.
Mike turned Layne's, former dumpy little restaurant that didn't do much business, to one that can hardly handle the business it gets today. I am so proud of him. I know the rest of his friends and family are too.
So with all of that said, on June 5th, don't go eat at Cane's go EAT AT LAYNE'S!
Thanks for the support,
Proud wife Ashley
