So I just put Scotts Weed & Feed on my yard........

I usually just drink a bunch of beer and pee on the lawn to water it in.

The weed part of the weed and feet needs to rest on the leaves of the weeds for a day so it can be absorbed. Assuming you put in down when the grass was wet, just wait 48 hours (or read the package directions) before watering.

Not late. Most folks fertilize too early.
Water immediately. First, the active weed killing ingredient won't work until watered in. Second, most fertilizers contain salts (not that kind of salt) that will burn tender leaves if left on.
Well, a little late in this part of the state, things should be all green by now.
That's weird B1-83, the stuff I put down said to apply when wet and then wait 48 hours before watering. I still watered after on mine since I don't have a hell of a lot of weeds and am paranoid afterlast years burning incident.

I've always watered immediately, just like my dad.
Weed and feed in march then come back and hit it with some nitrogen 6 weeks later. I did this and my yard is lush.
I put some Scot's down last night and watered it in the back yard and will water the front yard tonight. Hopefully waiting 24 hours or so won't hurt my grass.
I have been wrong before (once, I believe it was a Tuesday in May of 2002 ....) but the active ingredient in most weed and feeds is Atrazine. While usually applied as a liquid on crop weed problems, I would find it difficult to believe it would have an effect as a granule on a leaf. If someone has access to a label that says to leave it on, I will admit my mistake.
I'm not saying mistake I wa just curious, I will see if I can get an e-copy of the label and figure it out

The easy answer is to use Balan or some other pre-emergent in February, then Fertilize later in the spring. I think the weed-and-feed is BS. They should be done with different products.
I am going to follow the B1-83 lead and go organic. I have been researching the forums at dirtdoctor.com for insight
We went organic with our yard a few years ago. Our yard smelled like shat for about 9 months. Never again. Better living through chemistry.

Smelled????? I don't know what you used, but my yard has been organic fo 4 years now, and the stuff I used didn't smell at all - "Texas T".

You've gotta start somewhere. My yard is big and is probably 40% St Augustine and 60% weeds. I put down weed and feed last week - a good chunk of my lawn is brown right now, but the grass will (hopefully) slowly fill in the gaps. If not, I'll have to buy some sod and make some plugs.
I put down Weed & Feed but I think all it did was feed the weeds...oh well, contract is in and we close on the 29...not my problem now...
