His son Phillip played football at Katy Taylor High School, then at Ouachita State in Arkansas where he moved from QB to TE. He ended up being kind awesome, was on the Texans' practice squad in 2012, then signed by the Ravens last year. He got moved off their practice squad onto the real roster when Dennis Pitta went down hurt a couple weeks ago.

I was present for his proudest professional moment at the Washington County Fair in 1994. He performed a pretty sweet version of Pearl Jam's Better Man and dedicated it to one of his kids.

He had a stroke but last I heard he was not on his death bed. His relapse is imminent.
