Just got out of the ER....9 people at UTMB from TX City. One is really bad and may not make it. Injuries range from broken ankles to leg amputations to 90% total body burns. Crazy in the ER but mostly for the surgeons. All elective surgeries were cancelled and all surgery residents were called to ER. As a medicine resident, we are just on the sideline watching the chaos.

Kind of looks like the ER on the TV Show - usually not this busy here.

I can't get ahold of my friends to check on their families... their phones are both not working for some reason.

The BP Texas City plant is so big that shutdowns there can effect gas prices nationwide.

They said 30% of North American is made there-- but they think per records they have enough to withstand a small shutdown.

The Texas City plant is BP's largest plant. I think it is a top 5 plant nationwide. ExxonMobil's Baytown plant is the largest in the nation.

14 People dead now. But that report comes from Medical Examiner, which is not good news. My uncles are both fine. Luckily, both in another place that day. My prayers go out to other families now.

My Dad works for BP and was about 200 yards away from the explosion. He said there was actually two; a small one then the massive one. He said luckily the blast went to the south or he might have been caught up in it. Also, his next stop on his route was that unit. A pump shut down on him so it delayed his route. If it would have been 5 minutes later or had that pump not shut down my Dad would have died. I am thanking God tonight.
