Oh yeah, that's another reason. Location and time of night. I've had a few stops when I looked around and decided that $5 or $10 worth was going to be plenty to get me home.

There for a while I got money off gas based on grocery spend in a month. You had to use all your points in one transaction at the gas station. You were limited to 35 gallons max that got the discount. So here I was with a Versa and 3 to 4 gas jugs once a month trying to max out the discount. It was exhausting.

Talked to an old business acquaintance today who lives in the Buckhead area of Atlanta.

He said he locks his car when he fills up because there are too many vagrants that are trying to steal cars. Crazy.

When the gas light comes on.

I was told by someone that filling to half and not full, messes with the tank and rusting, but who knows bc I'm sure tanks are now plastic and who cares.

My bad. I was under the impression it was not top tier.

7/11 app. Been using it since April. Every 7th and 11th of the month they give 50 cents off a gallon. They also run constant extra promotions where you get anywhere from 5-15 cents off on top of that.

Price lock is their feature where it searches all the 7/11 station gas prices around you for the lowest price and then will lock in that current lowest price for up to 4 days out. So I check prices daily and "re-lock" them in if they stay constant.... That way, when I wake up one morning (like this morning) and see prices went up 40-50 cents overnight, my price lock keeps my price what it was before the increase.

Long story short.... I filled up both my car and my wife's SUV yesterday at 2.69 a gallon..... 39 gallons in total. I had a price lock on for 3.34 a gallon and received the 50 cent off promotion (since it was the the 11th of the month) and then further stacked that with an additional 15 cent offer they have as well. Since current prices around DFW are 3.85 to 3.90 today, I just saved almost $50 today alone by filling up yesterday evening at $2.69.

I'm not exaggerating when I say I've probably saved $300-400 in gas since they started running this promotion back in the spring.

I use GasBuddy which includes more brands but the savings aren't as big.

Don't routinely wait until the tank is nearly empty. Around tank is a good habit, especially before long trips.

My go-to was QT for gas but when they introduced this promotion last spring, I switched. I'll stick with them until they get rid of the savings.... Which at this point go through October.

Even today I can fill up for 3.14...... which is still about 70 cents cheaper than today's prices

Usually between 1/4 and 1/2.

I never like to get below a half tank. The way I figure it is if you have to run, you want to get as far as possible before having to pull off for gas. Seriously though, it was what I was taught by my grandfather. He logic was that metal tanks tended to rust and if you kept your tank full, the first rust holes would be up high and you wouldn't lose much gas. Since most tanks today are made of plastic, that is no longer an issue. I don't know if his logic was valid, but it's what I have, and it is so ingrained in me that I begin to twitch as the needle heads below the halfway mark.

If I have to run, and my tanks are full, I can get about 500 miles in my 2000 Chevy C3500, or about 430 in my 2024 Subaru Forester.

Can anyone with the knowledge of current day vehicles provide an answer to the OP?

Why don't vehicles set off notices of half full vs 2 gallons from empty if there is some damage that occurs to the tank?

Gotcha, I'm in Houston, we have 7-11s but not many, couldn't tell you where the closest one is

We hopscotched our way from DFW to Savannah the up to DC this summer hitting Costcos for gas.

Sometimes saved close to .45 cents a gallon over highway gas stations. 20 gallon fill up = 9 dollar savings. Saved over 100 bucks on the round trip.

Costco Mochas and hot dogs / chicken fingers saved a ton also.

Tanya ( RIP ) would be proud…

You might just check and verify that. I just looked at the Houston area in the app and there are a LOT of stations that I can see, especially on NW side of town.

I did. I'm just outside the loop, north of the Heights. None of the locations are close/convenient to either my house or office.

I usually try around the 1/4 tanks mark for the fuel pump concerns mentioned earlier
