I'm not sure I have ever seen a rancher carry a gun that way either unless he was at a clay shoot and trying to act big like the oil execs carrying their Italian made shot guns.

Yeah, our pecans came into season later in the fall. I still remember picking them up and having to shell them. Curiously, when our very productive pecan tree began to drop its fruit, I can recall increased visits from relatives in the area who helped us get rid of the surplus. The lever action .30-30 is a bit of a stretch because it would normally be in the pickup truck. It was ubiquitous in the county when I was growing up, along with .357 magnum revolvers.
