So what is the draw for this stuff? His pictures looks like he is an Edgar on steroids.

He was an anti-establishment professional troll. His entire schtick was to be as knowingly absurd as possible. Haven't heard much of his original music but guessing it was catchy stuff that appeals to the younger crowd.
