Some Aggie traditions didn't require a ticket or a big event.

All it took was the first warm spring afternoon… and suddenly Keathley "Beach" was packed. Blankets out, sunglasses on, everyone soaking up the sun after a long winter of classes. Walking by, you knew spring had officially arrived.

What was your favorite "first warm day of spring" spot on campus?

Tell us and you'll be entered to win a Belly Buster Certificate (Large 2 Topping, 6 Peproni rolls, and 1 order Cinnamonstyxz).

It's still there. I don't know if students use it though.

I remember it having two sand volleyball courts. But one was taken away to make room for a parking lot expansion.

I didnt realize FHK was ever all female. It was gendered by floor when I was there, but it was kind of pointless, honestly. 2nd floor fowler was female. 2nd floor Keithley was male. Don't remember what Hughes was.

When I started at A&M in the Fall of '74, there were 4 girls dorms on campus. Keathley-Fowler-Hughes were 3 of them. I lived in Moses on the side facing 2 of those dorms. It was glorious. Came to know Keathley Beach well.

I was in Fowler my freshman year and it was all male, while Keathley and Hughes were all female. It was up to the RAs to insure that visitation rules were followed. The story I was told was that a couple of years prior, Fowler was also all female. However, the male students who lived in Davis-Gary were so out of control that Res Life decided to switch DG from male to female, and correspondingly, Fowler was made a male dorm.

As an out-of-state student, I ended up living all four years on-campus in the FHK Complex. My sophomore year, Res Life decided to flip FHK to "co-ed" for the following year. As Fowler Hall Council president, I was allowed to give some recommendations for the switch (along with the Keathley and Hughes presidents), though I don't think many of our recos were actually implemented (while we all would have liked co-ed by suite, that was never a realistic option at the time and alternate gender by floor was the best we could do).

On that note, I ended up living in Hughes my Junior and Senior years, and in Keathley for my final semester the summer after Senior year so I could graduate in August rather than stay for a fifth year. Also, since Fowler was a "new" male dorm at the time we didn't have a dorm Yellow Pot and had to go to Bonfire cut with Moses. I think FHK got a Yellow Pot for Bonfire either my Senior year or the year after. Finally, when the halls were separate, they were more commonly referred to as Keathley-Fowler-Hughes. After they combined, FHK became the more common nickname for the Complex, for obviously reasons.

I remember them being the Keathley Cuties in the mid 80's.
