There is an argument to be made that old school analog recordings don't have the audio frequency and quality loss associated with digital compression, but the differences are imperceptible to most listeners and are often masked by noise in analog recordings.

don't get me wrong; my modern day Metallica deluxe box sets all sound fantastic.

But these old ones are thin and visibly in rough shape.

Some people also just enjoy being able to see/display album art at that size. And to be able to read album notes.

A lot of people who are into vinyl collecting probably aren't old enough for it to really count as nostalgia; it's just a different medium with its own merits.
