I had a couple of friends and now have some coworkers that went through Tarleton. Great culture there!

My son is a freshman at Tarleton and went there as a PSA for engineering. He made the decision to stay at Tarleton after a month or two. He loves it there.

And my wife and I were also very impressed with our visits to Tarleton last spring and summer.

Just my opinion....

Check out Alabama, Auburn, University of Tennessee, University of South Carolina, and University of Florida. Common theme...all SEC schools and all have highly rated engineering programs.

I'm partial to Tennessee...we live thirty minutes from campus and two of my daughters graduated from 'the real' UT.

Good luck with whatever your son opts to do.

Thnx. We live in SF Bay Area, so A&M is prob as far east as he'll go. He has some options here in the west, but A&M was his dream. Hence, the thread

I'm 3rd gen, I understand it just fine. You're the ones going on about how terrible it is when you have no actual idea of what the school is like now.

Not even 30 and you're already an F16er. T&P.

Deflecting cause your ass is older than me, and I have a better sense of the university than you is crazy. Nice work.

My kids were all Top 10% and auto admitted to A&M.

But in the end, they ended up going to better schools than. A&M.

Ok, which schools?

I'm not 30 yet, either. Luckily dodged the early onset MAGA F16 personality that's feeding your opinions, though.

Damn you joined TexAgs at 14 or under? That's hilarious. MAGA? I'm not MAGA. But I have been extremely conservative since I was roughly 12 years old. It took me 12 years to find more logic than half of our ******ed country.

Says the guy who seems to be lying about his age and slamming his face on the keyboard about "MAGA". Which is not something normal people say in real life.

Everyone knows that A&M goes to **** sometime between your sophomore and junior year.

Not lying about my age. I've been invested in A&M my whole life, which is another reason I understand the school more than you do.

If his dream is to be an Aggie, then he needs to do the PSA program.

My junior year was when the class of 04 were freshmen.

And we all know that the GB went to **** when they showed up.

Apply to A&M Galveston. Make the grades and then you can transfer to CS.

He has until May1st to accept. I'm betting he will prob decline tho as it doesn't look like an option to on ramp to engineering and he has admittance from other good engineering schools.

I'm pretty unhappy with TAMU. I get it, lots of apps, etc. but he has good, not great, grades and a lineage. Also, love for TAMU was something he and I share. I feel that will be broken now

No offense, but being out of state and having "good, but not great" grades, he is lucky they are even giving him this option. If going to A&M is really important to him, then take this option, get good grades and transfer to main campus next year.

Speaking from experience, there are tons of kids who think they want to be engineers but quickly change their mind after taking some classes and seeing what it's really like.

He has a taste as I got a EE from A&M and am in tech

My son went PSA to TAMU Corpus Christi and had a great experience. Could see the bay from his dorm! Spent 1 year, made the grades, transferred to the main campus in College Station and graduated there.

My youngest did PSA about ten years ago. Did a year at Tarleton before transferring to A&M. Turned out to be one of the best experiences of her life. Some of her best friends she has right now she met while at Tarleton before transferring.

If his dream is to be an Aggie then 2 semesters at another school to realize his dream is a small price to pay. Our son was PSA and was going to go to Prairie View with a bunch of high school buddies (we live in Cypress). He ended not going PSA and went to Blinn. Transferred in after three semester to COSC. It all worked out an we let him make the decision. He threw away the auto admit and gambled on himself. Couldn't be more proud of the boy, luckily he takes after his mom with the school stuff.

No. Closest is PV A&M and no engineering option

Correct. I do believe your major determines what location you attend. You MUST follow the class schedule they provide and there will be 12 or so hours of classes required to be completed in order to transfer. The best part about it is your auto entry to your major. Rate my professor is a valuable tool!

What the heck is that? Never heard of "TAMU wrt PSA option".

I'm an Aggie engineer class of '83 by the way.

Preferred System Acceptance.

Means pick one the A&M system school from the list TAMU Admissions provides, based on the desired major of the applicant. Take the required classes that they tell you, and get a certain gpa in those specific classes, as well as a certain gpa over all in your first two semesters and you will be automatically accepted as a transfer to A&M in your desired major.

Do you want your kid to attempt to have a normal freshman year like we all think we did in the 80s and 90s, or do you want him to be an Aggie?

Nothing wrong with the first option as long as you're okay with Tech or OU or whatever. They all have a Chili's.

My kid did PSA, and he'll be dunking his Aggie ring soon.
