My son just got response from TAMU wrt PSA option for fall 2025. Has anyone here done this? Any thoughts? Is this the final offer from TAMU, or could it change to Blinn TEAM later? I'm a bit surprised that this was his option. I didn't think he'd be admitted into engineering directly, but thought he'd get Blinn TEAM at least.

He does have other options at good engineering schools, so considering that too, but wanted to hear if anyone here had experience as TAMU was his most desired school choice. Also, we are planning on coming to Aggieland Saturday, but not sure it makes sense to take the trip if he wouldn't even be attending TAMU College Station.

As a side note, I'm pretty dang disappointed...

Cannot answer any questions but my niece got waitlisted and she is also upset. I feel like a 4.2 GPA is pretty competitive plus all her extracurricular activities.

Better take that offer fast. Your kid is going to love Texarkana. I would recommend Laredo because of the Heat, but whatever he wants.

He has until May1st to accept. I'm betting he will prob decline tho as it doesn't look like an option to on ramp to engineering and he has admittance from other good engineering schools.

I'm pretty unhappy with TAMU. I get it, lots of apps, etc. but he has good, not great, grades and a lineage. Also, love for TAMU was something he and I share. I feel that will be broken now

I saw this on the PSA site, in case it helps (in regards to high school dual-credit coursework applying as credit-hours). Might be worth a shot to call?

My kids were all Top 10% and auto admitted to A&M.

But in the end, they ended up going to better schools than. A&M.

Thnx. Looks like they were able to answer a few questions. Namely, this is the final decision from TAMU. So, he won't be on campus for fall '25. Good to know now as we were going to fly out for Aggieland Saturday and now that isn't needed.

Go to an in-state public school and save the money on tuition. Sit down with him at some point and do the math on interest and debt after school. If he is taking out student loans his lifestyle after graduating will be markedly better with the extra money he won't owe.

If you are paying or helping him pay, you will also be saving a ton of money.

Make good financial decisions, not emotional ones.

We'll be paying for college, including expenses. Not a problem. There is an emotional tie to TAMU, and we can afford it. However, I don't think it's going to happen for him. Also, CA schools are much harder to get into. So, he'll be going out of state anyways as he can get into a better school not in CA.

Abandoning legacy consideration killed the A&M we used to know, as far as I'm concerned. As did the top 10% auto admittance.

My HS junior daughter and I made two visits to A&M recently to talk to advisers. Overall they were positive experiences. If she applies, she will almost assuredly go through holistic review.

That said, on our visit and walks through campus, almost no students said Howdy. That was really disappointing. I blame Covid

It's been a public school since 1876. Legacy always mattered until tradition was abandoned for the all mighty dollar. In just 25 years since I graduated, the student body has gone from 45k to 70k+. To the point where they have now decided to cap admissions. The soul has been gutted.

I'm 3rd generation, by the way.

We had great responses from students when on campus.

That said, I'm going to have to counsel him to go elsewhere as other options are better so he can be an engineer. I'm pretty upset at TAMU. I'm going to be taking my donations elsewhere.

My post / argument above stands directly to your point. It wasn't Covid…by the way.

No offense, but being out of state and having "good, but not great" grades, he is lucky they are even giving him this option. If going to A&M is really important to him, then take this option, get good grades and transfer to main campus next year.

Speaking from experience, there are tons of kids who think they want to be engineers but quickly change their mind after taking some classes and seeing what it's really like.

Oh it is still Legacy, just not legacy for the common Aggie.

You think a Mays, Heldenfeld, Zachary, McFerrin or the like isn't getting in no matter what?

Don't kid yourself.

I get it…and I'm not kidding myself. But that's not what I meant and I'm sure you know that.

There used to be a specific section on the application for listing legacy.

Well you shouldn't give regardless. Let them dig into that $18bn endowment.

TBH the school is kind of a **** hole now. I'm an Aggie and I love being an Aggie. But I have no urge to send my kids there. They decided to be a woke degree mill like so many others.

I've worked on campus since 2006 and can count on one hand the number of "Howdys!" I've received back. Regs or non... doesn't matter

killing legacies hurt, the flippant admission of people who dont care about being an aggie at all and becoming a degree mill to maximize funding was the death of a&m.

the university system needs to be completely demolished and rebuilt. About 1/3 of the majors A&M offers should actually exist. There's reasons outside of market forces that they do.

A degree in engineering from a school like Tarleton or UT Arlington is better than a non-engineering degree from A&M

My son graduated from High School last May, and accepted the PSA offer from A&M. He started at Tarleton last fall as a Sports Management major(wants to get into coaching). He has made the requisite grades to stay in the PSA program, but decided to drop out of the program to stay at Tarleton for the duration. From what we have been told, 80% of students who start in the PSA program opt to stay at the program school versus transferring to College Station. This is one way the system schools are growing at a fast rate, so the system plan is working.

Honestly, what little time I have spent around Tarleton has been great. It feels very similar to the A&M of the mid-90's, though still smaller.

In our experience, I'm glad that he had the option to transfer to A&M and got the opportunity to take a closer look at the school prior to fully enrolling. He loves Stephenville and Tarleton, and ended up in the right situation for him. I honestly think he would have been overwhelmed socially and academically in College Station.

Plus, he was originally headed to Tech which made me want to vomit!
