Never had a Big Mac or a Filet o Fish either

Wow, you must be really healthy.

Well done.

Need to get there too.

Hahahahha

Or I was poor in college and lived off grilled cheese sandwiches and spaghetti with sauce.

One of they best ways to combat poor in college was McDonald's monopoly. I couldn't even tell you how many free Big Mac, filet o fish, and other freebies I got from those game pieces in the Battalion

But I didn't have a car most of the time. I would take a bus to a grocery store and buy a week's worth of groceries for me for about 25-30 dollars.

Why would you slather a brisket with HFCS

You all know this already, but it is compressed meat, made to look like a small set of ribs.

But, the filet o' fish is actually wild Alaskan salmon, iodine free, and then they dip it into the fryer. C'est magnifique. Pairs well with a nice cab.

Pollock.

It's a white fish, not pinkish like salmon.

Bad news, I didn't get a jug. It sold out while I was entering my payment info. Gone in less that 3 minutes

Several years ago I was in Oregon and grabbed lunch at a tiny drive through only fish and chips hut. It's the first and only time i've ever had beer batter style tuna and it was incredible.

Some of y'all are way too food snobby.

I could eat a McRib and fries for lunch and then head to the French Laundry for dinner and be happy at both.

McDonald's has some decent things on the breakfast menu and a modified Quarter Pounder can be serviceable for a burger, however the McRibs are flat out bad. Well described earlier as school Cafeteria food. That's not being a snob, that's having a minimum standard.

We all know that your minimum standard is 1 Michelin starred food...

I'd rather eat at a good food truck or a place on DDD than a Michelin starred restaurant.

I try to find a DDD or BTIEA place when I travel, too.

But, occasionally, I've done the Michelin starred places. Just to taste the high upscale food. Definitely not often, though. I don't get paid THAT well.

However, sometimes I just want to go back to my childhood and get those tastes...Nostalgia is a great thing. Hence, the McRib and other things there.

You should embrace that sometimes.

BTW, in case you didn't know, there are three 1 Michelin starred BBQ restaurants in Austin. la Barbecue is one.

I definitely do. Here's Big Mac and fries cooked in beef tallow I made. I've done the Serious Eats McRib several times as well. McDonald's today tastes nothing like McDonald's when I was growing up. Tallow fries, fried apple pies, McNuggets with dark & white meat, dangerous ass playgrounds, smiling employees taking your order. There's nothing nostalgic about eating there today

Just because you chef the **** out of food to make it appeal to your upscale palate doesn't mean it's not nostalgic to others.

But, congrats on spending more time on the process of making that Big Mac than everyone else who ate one at McDs did going to McDs, ordering, eating, and getting wherever the hell it was they were going.

When I go buy a Bomb Pop or a Drum Stick from the ice cream girl on the island (and I always do when I here her driving), it's nostalgic because it's the same as it was growing up. When I'm in Dallas I always stop at Keller's for the same reason.

There is nothing remotely the same at a McDonald's today as it was 35 years ago. If I'm in a hurry for a Burger, I'll go to Freddys or P Terry's. If I'm in the mood for a Big Mac trip down memory lane, I'll make it myself

See, I grew up in Germany and England. I think they had a few in London back then, but we didn't live there.

We only came back every other year to the US.

So, McDs was this huge big deal to get for me.

And a Big Mac or QPC or FoF or even McRib all still taste the same as when I had them back then.
