How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have stopped eating breakfast for about 7 years. Just coffee, nothing solid. I don't miss it.
I am considering if I should extend fasting to Mondays so I have coffee in the morning, just water during the day and dinner at 6pm.

I am generally healthy but want to reduce some tummy fat. It isn't a problem but I want to improve regardless.

Any of you guys fast for better health? What do you experience?

Lunch - chicken, broccoli, potatoes

Truthfully, if you just did the bold part for a month you would shed fat without even hitting the gym.

Correct.

And adding: only drink water - if you're drinking alcohol or sodas with any amount of regularity, none of this matters - alcohol and sugary drinks (this includes "sports drinks" like Gatorade) will destroy even the most perfect of diets

This is, obviously, an extreme approach - I did this for a while and was in the best shape of my life…but I've relaxed a lot since then

The real key is moderation with everything. Sugar is very hard to eliminate (it's sooo good) - but try by getting your sugar fix in naturally occurring ways (bananas, apples, strawberries, etc) - maybe don't avoid foods with sugar altogether, but instead look for snacks where there is no added sugar

Limit yourself to one sweet snack per day - great job with no sodas/ice cream…you might as well be eating sugar right out of the bag, so that's big.

I have a weekly "sweets" limit for myself and on my Sunday grocery store run, I buy that much (usually a dark chocolate bar) - when it's gone, it's gone. That helps me stay within my limit - if it's not in the house, I can't eat it

Good diet isn't easy, but with a goal and a good plan, it's possible! Good luck!

Remember, sugar is not just sweets. Sugar is carbs, pasta, grain, bread, etc. Cut out grain and processed foods and you'll see a difference.

It takes a lot of discipline.
I never felt or looked better than the several months when I cut out all sugar/alcohol. I have slowly added sugar (in the form of breads and beer) back into my diet, and that dad body is returning.

Fasting has been commoditized and turned into fast-track, easy way to lose weight and "get healthy". In reality, if you're not eating the right foods it doesn't matter.

OP said he was trying to lose the tummy fat - that's the hardest thing to get rid of and fasting isn't going to get it done if the food that's taken in is garbage. To do that, you've got to cut out all the crap and eat really clean. And if you're eating clean, fasting isn't going to add anything to your progress.

The trend of intermittent fasting, as it's portrayed today, is most certainly a gimmick trend. You have to get your food right, then you can trick it up however you want.

I like white bread but my wife gets wheat bread. I don't argue with her as I know it is better. But what about the sugar content in that?

I don't have an alcohol problem, I rarely drink, except with some friends meet which is once every 2-3 months.

I need to figure out my sugar plan.

I have a confession to make.

I went out to get Halloween candy for the kids who would come by and ended up buying "extra" packet of candy corn and those candy pumpkins. Oh those are awesome. And sweet. The candy corn is almost over, my daughter also had some but the candy pumpkin is still unopened. I was meaning to finish it over a few weeks. But now I feel guilty and my mom yelled at me last week so I will just return it to Target.

I notice that I am not an addictive personality. If you don't bring it into the home, I don't feel the craving. This was a Halloween exception case but I never go out and buy myself candy or coke or ice cream.

No one brings Coke in (I used to, now I don't) and I don't crave for it.

You do realize how unintentionally ironic you are being, right? Demonizing fasting in one hand as being a "gimmick" while uplifting "whole foods" in the other, as if it the same exact thing isn't being done with the "whole foods" diet.

Fasting is extremely beneficial, as is eating non-processed foods. Both methods have "gimmicks" and "lose weight quick" - diets that are attached to them, which misconstrue the actual healthiness of both of them.

Don't mind me, you've clearly got it all figured out. Your way is the only way to lose weight.

Yeah the whole wheat better than white bread really isn't true. Also if you are trying to lose fat, definitely wouldn't be eating any bread.

The cutting out carbs is bs, you need to cut out bad carbs. Eat corn tortillas instead of flour. Oatmeal and 100% whole grain bread is perfectly fine.

There are millions of healthy people on this planet that eat carbs (including myself). There's more than one way to skin a cat. Cutting carbs can work, but that doesn't mean that a diet with carbs is bad.

I frequently fast on Mondays. Feels great. I also recently did a 4 day fast. It was shockingly easy. I literally wasn't hungry for 4 days and then the last day I decided it was time to eat and my mind became crazy with the idea of food. I pigged out pretty good then, but I was glad I did the fast.

One of the advantages of being a moderate to heavy beer drinker is that you have an easy lever to pull if you wanna lose a lot of weight fast. Give up drinking for a month or so, and you'll lose weight fast enough to be concerned for your health.

I lost about 50 lbs from my heaviest weight, and what worked for me was just focusing purely on calories in vs calories out.

Keto was something I had tried before, but didn't really work for me as well.

Granted, a caloric deficit really requires you to cut out obvious stuff like beer, soda, sugars, and cut way down on bread. But it's ok to have them every once in a while as long as you cut down on calories the rest of the day.

That diet worked wonders for me, and what I've done to keep the weight off in all the subsequent years has been a combination of intermittent fasting (skipping breakfast), and continuing to focus on calories. I don't always eat "right", but I do try to limit myself to one big/heavy/cheat meal a day, and then a small meal to compensate.

I don't count calories anymore and am not nearly as strict about it, but it's easily sustainable and more of a "lifestyle change". Something I can continue doing without too much trouble or effort.

If I ever gain like 5-8 pounds or so, I just start eating better, more chicken and vegetables, and can usually drop it in a few weeks.

The most important thing is remembering that your diet has infinitely more effect on you than whatever exercise you do.

When you stop eating bread and pasta for a long while, eating a piece of bread feels like eating a chocolate cupcake.
