Does anyone know if a student adds a parent as an authorized user if they can view a student's grades? Or is it strictly to pay bills?

What class did you fail....

Politics related as this could clearly lead to a capital murder charge apparently.

Lmao, no they can't see your grades. My parents would have pulled me out of A&M if they did

Thanks! To add an authorized user for bill payment it says the parent gets access to "detailed student account information." I wasn't sure if that includes grade or if that was additional.

Land the helicopter. If your adult dependent won't be honest about their grades, evaluate why they don't trust you.

Lol, when I paid my three kids' bills at A&M 10 to 15 years ago, these stupid privacy laws were in effect then also. I told my boys 'if you want me to pay the bill, I need your username and password to monitor your account and pay the bills on time. Otherwise, you can pay the bill.' They all took me up on my "offer."

I wasn't going to put up with all that crap that makes it difficult for a parent to support their kids.

Adding you to bill pay does not allow you to access grades. Your kids can allow you access to grades separately through the Howdy portal. Be advised it is not like high school. You do not see individual test, papers, etc. We did not access our kids grades but have friends that did. I don't suggest it. We let them handle their own and give us their own updates.

lol at kids who have to have their parents pay their bills for them. Tell them to get a job and pay their own bills.

No wonder you're worried about them seeing your grades. With no one around to do the work for you, you're doomed.

I think you, the parent, have to sign something at meet-the-prof night.

How much was college when you were at A&M and did you work? Or take loans

15 years ago we're talking $10-12k per semester. Some loans and some scholarships and some out of pocket. Worked 30-40 hour/week (like I had been doing since I was 17) plus 12 hour course load and my bills were always paid on time.

I don't think 15 years ago was 10k a semester. It was 10k a semester when I was there in 2014-2018, regardless that's impressive

Its just what you do when you work hard and don't have parents that can pay for you. I was half scholarship, worked different odd jobs during the year, and busted my ass working construction during the summers to cover the rest. No loans.

I don't remember what tuition was in 08-12, but I typically made about 20-22k a year after taxes. I could live comfortably on 1,000 or so a month I remember being the number.

Yeah, I don't remember for sure, $23k a year was what Google said for 2008. Seemed high but who am I to question the internet?

It was a lot of hours but I had a pretty cush job working for the 12th man foundation ticket office while I was in school. Worked the ticket windows 6am-1 and then worked events at night - plenty of downtime to get homework done - there are other jobs I could have had that would have made it much more difficult to keep up with the load.

And bills were low - I think rent in our little duplex in Bryan was only $750/month split between 3 of us.

It was roughly $20k/yr from 2009-2016 when my kids were in school. That was everything: tuition, fees, room, board, books, etc. It was more in 2016 than 2009, but it was right in that range.

I think that If a student adds a parent as an authorized user, typically, the parent can only access the billing and payment information. But are you really afraid, while studying at the university, that your parents will be angry because of the grades? I think you're definitely over 18 years old. Most universities keep academic records, like grades, separate from financial information. So, adding a parent as an authorized user usually won't give them access to grades unless the student specifically grants them that permission through a different process. It's best to check the specific university's policies, though, since they can vary.I hope this helps you.
