Stay in her room in a chair or something until she goes to sleep. If she gets out of bed, just put her back in. Eventually she'll get it. Move a little farther, like just outside her door, after a few nights or a couple of weeks.

Try a podcast!

There's one called little explorers and it tells a bedtime-type tale and takes them through deep breathing exercises to help them drift to sleep!

She knows one of you will pick her up and stay or take her to your bed. She's out smarting you. Let her cry it out for a few nights and she'll figure it out.
5x dad, here. This is the right answer. You have to be disciplined in taking her back to bed. Over and Over and Over and Over... but then... voila!

I am against benedryl (obv) but also melatonin.

Another option is exercise the crap out of them during the day.

2.5 year old who takes an hour plus to go to sleep. Most nights ends up in our bed or someone sleeps with her.

She used to sleep like a hibernating bear. It has all gone to hell the last 4 months.

Do we introduce the childproof locks and let her scream like hell?

Here's where you're shooting yourself in the foot. You're gonna have to rip off the bandaid.

Cut out the bed sharing. Come up with a good bedtime routine to give her a long runway to calm down, lock the door, and white knuckle it until the new boundary sets in for her.

This is the correct answer. Stop rewarding behavior you do not approve.

Yes... she screams because you come back... It is very painful, but just a few nights and it will stop.

Did you Ferberize your child when she was a baby?

Melatonin is your next step.

It is not your kid that needs sleep training, it is you the parent that needs it.

Establish the boundaries and be consistent. My oldest no problem with sleeping. My youngest woke up crying everyday from her nap or sleep for over 2 years. Multiple trips to our bed and we'd take her back as soon as she came to our room.

Now, we understand why. She's a talker and has to let out her emotions so crying doesn't necessarily mean pain nor emotionally hurt but just frustrated at the inability to use words to convey her feelings.

I paid for Awesome Little Sleepers. It was $300 but I'd pay it again for the Sleep Tight Without a Fight class. It was all stuff I generally knew but it helped me put it together, involved my kiddo in the process and it's been so much better.

Generally: make a routine, involve your kid in the plan. Stick to the routine. Decide if you want to basically do Cry it out or gradually remove yourself from their room. After lights out, zero engagement (positive or negative). Our sleep time ended up being 6:30, after moving it around, this is coming from an 8pm bedtime. Just happened to be what worked for her.
