Then show me a source that speaks about what form Freemasonry existed before 1717. Everything I have seen seems to indicate that other groups basically folded into the Freemasons and that it was formed in 1717.

This is not how it is with Kappa Sigma, it was actually formed a little over 600 years ago in Bologna, Italy and is easily tracable back to that point. It is not so easy to trace the Freemasons back to much before 1717.
