Do people other than Feds, schools and banks get MLK Day off?

Not a holiday at my workplace. Doesn't bother me since I don't celebrate this day, but it got me to thinking.

I know the feds, schools and banks get this holiday, but do other companies actually give this as a day off? Seems like such a spare holiday that only those who HAVE to take it actually do so.

No - we get a floating holiday. Anyone who actually wants to go to the parade or whatever can I suppose … I'll use mine for an extra beach day this year

We have a company holiday, but I'll work anyway. We have an open vacation policy so it doesn't really make a difference.

We get it every other year usually

There's one "rotating holiday" they randomly choose a holiday for. It's essentially an extra day for the 4th of July or MLK.

Work at a State Agency, used to be optional and I would choose to take off Confederate Hero's day instead of MLK. I like working with a skeleton crew and then having a day off when most people go to work. Now at a different state agency that's a bit outside the norm we just get MLK and standard holidays; New Years, Memorial Day, 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

We have 12 standard holidays and 2 floating days. MLK Day is one of the standard days. They added it about 5-6 years ago.

University gets it off. I will be working part of it though, so its time to bank for use in the future.

Hubs company gets off I think - he works for a worldwide corporation. I assume just the US divisions get off.

Large law firm. We get the day off but are "encouraged" to spend the day in service/volunteering to support people of color. Staff and white liberals take the day off. The rest of us just go to work. Strangely enough, we also get Juneteenth which is weird since most of my firm is based outside of Texas.

Work for a state agency as a contractor from a university. Get MLK off. Confederate day is a skeleton crew, which means I would normally have to work. Our university leadership sent out email last week saying we get Confederate day and LBJ day in August off, but we can chose to work those days and take them at a later date.

I'm working Confederate day due to my project workload.

When I started 13 years ago we got 8 holiday days plus 2 "personal choice" days. Then at some point we dropped the personal choice days and made it 10 fixed holidays (I think they added Good Friday and the day before Thanksgiving). We added MLK day a few years ago as part of our going woke. I'm not complaining. I'd add Juneteenth too if it were up to me. I don't work in education, banking, or government.

You'd think as woke and DEI obsessed as my company is we would get MLK off, but we dont. However a lot of people WFH on Mondays, so it is a skeleton crew in office today.

I always thought it was odd that A&M would observe MLK day when it was a mix who was working and start the Spring semester on a Tuesday, but the Fall semester always started on Labor Day when everyone and their dog had the day off.

MLK was a "content of character" guy. Most bureaucracies and big companies are now "color of skin", "gender", or "sexual perversion" driven. Surprised any of them celebrate MLK Day as a work holiday.
