LinkedIn is a very powerful networking tool and it's useful to keep your network up to date on where you're working/how your career is progressing. My last 3 jobs have been from companies and recruiters finding me on LinkedIn. I actually haven't gotten a job in a long long time by applying.

LinkedIn is is a business networking platform. Why would you not announce your new company or promotion on it?

I used to use LinkedIn years ago, but found no real value in it. These days, it's irrelevant to my profession. Social media like Facebook and Instagram are much more valuable in the field.

Fire someone for posting a new hire on LinkedIn?!... What! It's a networking site for professional people, that also has a good news feed where folks often promote their company and often bring positive accolades to their company, if you do things right. It's good business to use it, wisely, and the only social media I use, and for good cause. You have recourse, if they don't too. Public record and all. Smart money monitors it for what is posted, then reacts and acts accordingly.
