In the fridge.

However, if you have dijon ketchup you can put it in the pantry.

You can also put it on burgers and hot dogs. If you have the palate of a 5 year old.

Yeah, you don't want to mess with the complex flavor profile of a hot dog weiner.
Hot dog, corn dog, sausage wrap, don't matter. Mustard is the correct condiment for these.

Nobody said anything about mustard not belonging on them.

There's so much sodium in catsup that it isn't going to spoil. Pantry.

No. But it WILL ferment. I know this because Ingot a bottle at a restaurant that doesn't refrigerate their ketchup and it had fermented. Gross.
Been there, done that. And, the cap wasn't tightened properly, so when I shook it to get it mixed up, it exploded against the wall!

Go back to Europe with your mayo on French fries.

Ketchup on breakfast tacos? That is the yankeeist thing I've ever heard. Either that or you are a 5 year old girl like the people who put ketchup on their burgers.

This is America. We eat our fries with ketchup, you Commie!

Meatloaf - sorry your meatloaf is made incorrectly and/or dry and needs ketchup
It's not dry. The ketchup brings acid to offset the richness.

Meatloaf sandwiches - see above
See above. The meatloaf sandwich also needs mayo though.

Burgers - are you a Yankee?
Ketchup, mayo, pickle, tomato. No lettuce, no mustard.

Fried fish - cocktail sauce or tartar sauce
Tartar sauce and ketchup, alternating not mixed. Cocktail sauce is for shrimp not fish.

Fried shrimp - cocktail sauce or maybe honey mustard
Cocktail sauce and ketchup, alternating

Fried oysters - see above
Tartar and ketchup. Cocktail is acceptable. Oh and a remoulade is great on any of the fried seafood.

Fried crawfish - see above or have nothing on them if they are done correctly

No, he's right. We would have accepted hot sauce or some form of salsa on your eggs or tacos. Not ketchup.

You must be a yankee if you think it's actually spicy.

It belongs on the food. Period.

If it's in the fridge, or pantry it isn't performing its intended use. It should be consumed shortly after purchase at peak freshness with potatoes, burgers, and hot dogs...but never on steak.

I like several kinds of spicy relish (like red cabbage, chow-chow, or dill) on hot dogs and usually add a bit of good quality catsup for sweetness. Would never use straight up catsup all by itself on any sausage like food.

You vote democrat, don't you? If you don't, you might as well because you're a large part of the reason our society has fallen as far as it has.

Oh and Heinz or Whataburger KETCHUP only. None of that Hunt's trash.
Normally, I agree with you, but there is this one brand called House Recipe. Sysco sells it to restaurants, and it's damn good.

Also, when and where you can find it, Smucker's. Yes, that Smucker's. The website says it's only available at their company store in Orrville Ohio. My Mom used to work for Smucker's so we had it at the house, and it's the best ketchup I've ever had.

BTW, Smucker's used to also make pickles. I don't know if they make pickles anymore, but they were the freaking bomb. We used to give jars out to the cousins for gifts at Christmas. Every one of my cousins still say they miss those.

When I was younger and met friends parents, they inevitably ask what your parents do. When I'd tell them Mom worked for Smucker's; same answer every time: "Ooohh Smucker's. They are VERY good, but they are EXPENSIVE!" Lolol.

BTW, we keep ours in the fridge, but just because I don't want to go to war with the wife. Every restaurant I ever worked in kept it on the tables. Never refrigerated.

Now it's only fair to point out that most ketchup in restaurants is going to be consumed fairly quickly, so the time it might sit on a pantry shelf fermenting is pretty much not gonna happen.

The real answer on the 'to fridge or not to fridge' debate lies in how quickly you go through it.

Actually, those high level quality comments usually came from adults. I wasn't that into pickles back then, true, but I remember how good their sweet pickles, and the bread and butter pickles were.

Smucker's made a 'Pickle Hot Mix' that looked like this:

It's the one thing our family would just go nuts over it was so good. Smucker's actually had their customers ask to dial back the heat because it was so hot.
