Every weekday, all freaking day but especially late afternoon, seems like I get at least 5 of these.

Auto accident compensation
Free COVID tests if you have Medicare, which I'm 10+ years away from even being eligible
Burial and cremation plans

Sometimes I play along and tell them I'm 107 years old or other crap...I'm thinking I pissed someone off and they put me on more call lists!
plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

Yeah.

But they actually work for me and my boss doesn't approve when I call them scam artists. She keeps saying that's not how you're supposed to treat your subordinates.

Oddly enough, a few times I've tried to mess with them recently they stopped and said, "I see you are on the do not call list. Have a nice day." I was disappointed I didn't get to have fun..

I have two standard responses:

"I am Ganesh and will come leave elephant dung in your living room."

"Have you ever been skydiving? You should pack your own parachute while drunk and go skydive over an active volcano."

Just had one for life insurance. when he asked me my age I told him I was 13. He told me I was too young I told that shouldn't matter since I can change my gender with no problem.

I used to get the one from "Microsoft" about having a virus on my computer, and they need remote access to fix it. I used to mess with those morons all the time. My favorite was to play along, and tell them "Dang, you're right. I been noticing some strange video just popping up." When they ask me what is the video, I tell them "it's the one where I'm ****ing your mom." I usually get cussed out in Hindi before they hang up.

This was the best one because they would go to any length to try and get remote access to your computer. My wife and I kept them on the line once for a good 25 minutes. When she handed the phone to me I said we just realized we had an Apple computer, not a PC and he said, "Well, I am actually with the Apple Division of Microsoft."

Later in that same call I told them I just realized the reason I couldn't access the website was because I hadn't turned the monitor on yet.

I moved from TX to MO almost 10 years ago but still have my cell number from when I lived in Bryan. If I get a call from a 979 number that isn't in my address book, I can be 100% sure it's SPAM (or worse), and I don't answer it.

Cool thing is I don't get any of that crap from 573 numbers (local area code).

My best ever was a guy faking that he was from Discover Card and wanting to help me consolidate my credit-card info. He didn't blink an eye when I told him I had $735,000 in credit card debt from 13 different cards. I started a running conversation about how my brother also worked for Discover card and that he had gotten his leg cut off in a thresher. When he asked for my social security card number, I took about 10 minutes going back and forth with him that my # was really 222-22-2222. He eventually told me that he knew my brother and my brother was not a hard worker.

I used to get these calls a lot at one point of time. Not from Indians but from some black folks saying that I had an outstanding debt. I think they were genuine because they were looking for someone with a different name but who had given my phone number. The first few times I told them "Steve" wasn't at this number. But they kept calling for Steve every few days.
Until I told them poor Steve and that I was Steve's nephew. Then expressed sorrow and disconnected. They probably marked this Steve guy dead since I didn't get any further calls.

One Indian guy called me with the same scam a few years ago. I played along until he realized that he was wasting his time. So how does their scam work? They get remote access and?

How interesting. At one point in time I actually used to work for Discover Card in their IT team!

Read one of those scamming-the-scammers accounts back in the day of the Nigerian prince scams that was highly satisfying. Dude had this poor fella drawn in so hook line and sinker that he was able to send him to all four quadrants of London with plausible sounding access to money at each bank. When the guy would get there and, of course, not be able to get the money, dude would have some ingenious and believable excuse...'Oh, that's ABC bank, isn't it? Totally forgot they had a withdrawal limit. I'm so sorry. Look, if you go to my XYZ bank (30 miles away) and talk to Mr. Jones (a real banker he got off the website) he'll issue you a debit card....' etc, etc...over the course of two days. It was epic.
