Why do people take their dogs everywhere?

I don't mind dogs at the hardware store. There is a long jobsite dog tradition in the trades.

I don't mind dogs outside at a restaurant.

I don't want to see dogs in the grocery store, pharmacy, inside a restaurant, etc. The only time I could see this is if you are traveling in the summer and you have no options. Once a dog starts defecating or fighting inside all bets are off no matter where they are.

And when did we get to a point in society where we just allow it?

Just watched a dog take a **** in a Dillard's store and lady just walked off like no big deal?

I don't get it .

Got that beat. Flying from DC to Albany NY and the 2 tatted colored haired slots let their little yapper out of its cage one row of seats in front of me. As soon as we took off the lil bastage quit yapping and dropped a duece in their lap. The whole plane had to smell that deuce all the way to Albany.

Can't stand people with dogs in the grocery store, especially those who carry them and are reaching in the meat or produce area. I love dogs but for crying out loud can you not be away just for a short time to take care of shopping?

This, definitely not sanitary in the grocery store. Patio drinking beer, fine. I don't get why we baby them so much. I think covid and always being around them has made it worse.

I don't see how someone bringing their dog with them creates an imposition for me, someone who doesn't need to speak to them or interact with them. Please explain.

Annoys the heck out of me. Especially in a restaurant. I wonder what liability a business owner has if someone's dog bites another customer.

I move around the metroplex for work and my favorite places to go are the ones who bring their dogs to work with them. One of the places I go to regularly I've bonded so much with the dog that the owner told me he gets sad when I leave .

The people bringing the dog into public places where dogs aren't generally expected/allowed are creating the imposition.

And the majority of these people have no formal training for the dogs. Why should others be put at risk because of a dog's bad behavior? Or if someone has a fear of dogs have to deal with that in a Dillard's? It creates unnecessary risk for children and adults alike. Not to mention the dogs peeing/pooping/barking/doing general dog things.

Sure, this would be dumb to care about if you go to a dog park. But people don't expect to see Fido when they're shoe shopping at the mall and shouldn't be forced to accommodate other's weird obsession with their pet.

ETA: I can say with 110% certainty that there is absolutely no way that you apply this same attitude of "If it doesn't bother me, why should I care?" to other facets of life.

Gf and I went out Friday night to a bar. Indoors a couple was on date and he had brought a dog. Yes, on a date.

The dog had a service animal vest. It was clearly not a service animal as it would not stay still, jumped on the waitstaff, and barked more than once.

The really obnoxious part was the vest read as follows:
DO NOT PET
DO NOT CALL
DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT

Excuse me but **** you. You don't get to take your dog out in public and then create ****ing rules that include not looking at the animal. Get over yourself *******.

Poor girl he was on a date with looked like she couldn't get out of there fast enough.

I wouldn't take my dog to the grocery store, but I took my previous dog to Home Depot whenever I went. She loved the adventure and she was well behaved. If it's against their store policy, nobody ever told me. I saw so many in there that I figured it was allowed.

Similarly, a dog inside a restaurant would be weird, but a dog on a patio is fine by me.

People who bring their pet everywhere are generally nut jobs who think the world revolves around them. I don't want someone bringing their stupid mutt around where I either eat food or buy my food.

I had a date bring her dog but we chose a dog friendly patio and I was cool with it as I love dogs. Until she had zero control over the dog and it was not well trained. There wasn't a second date.

Did it has a service animal vest, or just a vest? Dogs can wear vests you know.

And I didn't know a service animal had a bark limitation of just 1.

It's frustrating working at a grocery store because ppl are assh*les. Dog owners are a holes if you ask them not to put their dog in the cart where other ppl put their food.... ppl that hate dogs in stores also suck because there is nothing we can do about it if we are told it's a service animal (the exception to that is if they **** in the store we can kick them out). It is annoying that so many ppl bring their dogs in the store.

I will say there are a couple of legit service dogs that the owners shop regularly at our store and they are amazingly well behaved and cause no problems and are very clearly service dogs. No one complains about them.

So people who don't like dogs in stores suck because stores can't sack up and do something about it? Seems a little misguided to me. I bet stores will change their tune when they get hit with a lawsuit for somebody's "fur baby" biting someone or someone getting sick from someone's nasty dog being around food.

i thought i had seen it all when a lady brought her two great danes into HEB once (as if those aisles aren't congested enough), but then a teenage girl I know brought her longhorn into tractor supply once. thats right, a 1400lb steer on a halter walked around the GD store with her.

This "look at me, look at me" generation has got me really close to just putting a sock around my johnson and letting it swing freely in public

It is mind boggling to me how this keeps getting reframed as somehow the fault of anyone other than the person who is engaging in the behavior.

But, I suppose that should explain a lot.

Let us know if and when you plan on socking your Johnson. I'd buy tickets and bring my camera. Now I'm looking for a towel because I spit out my coffee!

I am sure you would feel this way the next time someone brings a dog into a movie theatre and sits next to you while you're trying to watch whatever new Star Wars film has come out.

There is no way it will try to eat your popcorn or disturb your viewing experience in any way, right? Every dog and every person will be perfectly well behaved.

I would ask them to move or alert the theater manager. I would not whine about it on the Internet.
Also, I don't like popcorn.
But I do love a rowdy crowd at the movies.

So basically, your condescending, speculatory post is one big airball.

How is asking them to move any different than "whining"?

Isn't the very act of asking them to move admitting that they are disturbing your preconceived notion of what your experience should be like in a public setting?

Whining = coming online to gripe about a problem
Asking them to move = directly speaking to the other human in a rational manner to explain to them why, unless it's a service dog, it shouldn't be in the theater.

Also, I really love dogs, so I don't think I'd even care if a dog was in the theater to be honest.
