Ours was rescheduled to Jan 19 because the project accidentally ran out of discretionary funds.

My group had an informal dinner at a fancy Italian place and my wife's company had a lunch party at Killen's steakhouse. I got to eat good.

Office holiday parties need to die unless they happen during work hours.

Skipping ours. The party is at Minute Maid park but at 4pm in the afternoon with young kids in school and no family in town makes it pretty impossible logistically.

1. Check kids out of school at 2:30pm
2. Take them to Christmas party with you
3. Have them raise so much of a ruckus that the company decides there will be no future Christmas parties outside of working hours
4. ??????
5. Profit

I'd rather just not go and let people who choose to go have a good time.

Have Tandy and Chester watch the kids.

Or you and Chester watch the kids and Tandy can take your wife to the party.

The best part about traveling for work on your own schedule is that you can miss all of the crappy holiday parties and potlucks while being considered to be taking one for the team.

Not a work party, but some friends that we met through my wife's former job throw an epic holiday party every year. Open bar, taco truck, a bunch of snacks, DJ, and mechanical bull. Took a little time to get going today.

So glad I'm not in the big corporate world. When I'm not at work I'm done working. Don't ask me to socialize with office drones outside of work hours. That time is way too valuable to spend on pretending to have fun with Steve and Karen from accounting.
Let's go, Brandon!

my office used to have a christmas party on a thursday night, but despite it being the owner's favorite thing he could never understand the poor turnout. first production shift started at 6am, so of course most folks would leave early, if they went at all

thankfully, since covid, its turned into a bbq luncheon

Years ago, I worked at a company where the CEO ran a poll to see if employees wanted a fancy Christmas party or a gift card in lieu of. Over 100 people in the company, two of them voted for the Christmas party, one of them being the CEO. To his credit, though, he didn't overrule the vote - we got gift cards and no party.

This is how we roll with my team in big corporate. BBQ at lunch, give them all a gift that my admin organized but i fund out of my cost centers, and then the rest of the afternoon off. An example of the gift may be a nice pullover that is subtly embroidered with our logo (ie on sleeve and usually same color as the cloth). Sometimes we have a 2-3 item menu to choose from ahead of time. May play a couple of lame games after we eat, but fairly short stuff. About 40 people so we keep it simple

$200 I think. Then we got bought the next year and our Christmas gift was a pair of cheap earbuds.

Maybe if you had gone to the Christmas party the CEO wouldn't have sold out.

My sis-in-law worked for the Lanier law firm many years ago. He would throw amazing Christmas parties with amusement park rides, petting zoos and of course a huge spread of food (but no booze). They would set up a huge tent and have a concert with name entertainers (Sting, Bon Jovi, Cross Canadian Ragweed, etc.) This was all done on Lanier's property, which has it's own chapel.
