I second buying a house. Then, you can sell it afterwards or refurbish it and retire there.

youngest is graduating in Dec and he has been at Park West in a 4 bedroom. I liked that each tenant had their own seperate lease. If 1 roommate bailed mid semester the other 3 werent stuck splitting the rent or moving out. Im sure individual leases is a common thing now but it was a highlight for me. PW also on the bus route.

Tell them they are going to school in the same state if they want you to pay for it.

I'll be 60 when my boy/girl twins head off to college in 11 years. Interested to hear how it goes.

I'm 42. Having more kids at this age is a big ol hell naw
from me.

The Standard is pretty nice, and you rent by the room. Rent is on par with the Campus dorms and it's way nicer.
My daughter lives there, but won't after this year because it is pretty expensive.

Have any of you checked the prices on just decent houses in College Station...$300k minimum.

True, but if your monthly payment and utilities is on par with dorm costs, at least you can sell it back later and recoup your costs (assuming the housing market doesn't go to crap)

If there is any possibility they may want to live on campus, send in housing applications ASAP because choices are based on the date received. That at least keeps options open. But yes, they have to be accepted to the University first before they can apply for housing

So does that mean they girls don't want to be roommates I'm a dorm/apartment? Just curious as I would think they'd be super close. Maybe it's the 3rd wheel that throws a wrench into the mix.

Ha ha. Would be like Kari Lake and an intelligent AOC being roommates.

Never thought I'd see intelligent and AOC in the same sentence. Even in a hypothetical world

The good dorms get filled by those who are accepted early.
There are plenty of off campus alternatives that are close by. (Northgate)

One of my former roommates has a daughter living at Calloway House this year and she is enjoying it. She has a private bedroom, but shares a bathroom, den/kitchenette type area with her other roommates.

I lived off campus in some sketchy apartments.

But I had some friends who lived in "Cambridge Hall". It's like a dorm setting with meal plans available. Seemed nice from my seat.

I would stay away from Calloway House or any of the options in that area because George Bush west of Wellborn has become almost permanent grid lock and as soon as they start tearing up that intersection it will be a disaster for at least 3 years.

This is true.

For that matter, all of the new student housing communities west of Wellborn and "south" of 2818 really jam up traffic over there. It would be fine if they all road buses to campus instead of all having to drive their $80k Mercedes sedans or tricked out Jeeps or their lifted Brodozers so they can park in Lot 100 and end up riding a bus to main campus anyway.

But they don't.

Tip 1. Private high schools tend to feed their students to out of state colleges all over the map. If you want them to go to A&M stay in public school.

Tip 2. If your school doesn't have a great college counselor, hire an independent one. Staying ahead of the process and deadlines is key.
