Now when you pay with a card at the terminal it asks you if you want to tip. Seems like it's becoming more of the expectation.

I've been noticing that everywhere.

I ordered an auto part yesterday online. Part of the transaction had a space for a tip for the vendor. Yeah, no thanks. Just sell me the part and I'll pay for the part.

Enough is enough. I'm done tipping unless I'm actually being waited on at a restaurant or I order delivery. If I pick up a bunch of to go food that is nicely bagged up, maybe I'll do 5%.

That's it.

No, I'm not giving you a tip for doing the job that you are being paid a full wage to do.

I tip at restaurants, whether dine in or takeout, but not out of any desire to help out the servers. I consider it a lazy tax on myself - if I'm ordering food rather than making my own, I'm gonna make me pay for it.

This happened to me at a donut store yesterday. The receipt had a spot for a tip. I'm like, I'll give you the money, you give me the donut, end of transaction. We don't need to bring extra compensation into this. I just can't imagine a scenario where I would have to prove that I believe someone handing me a donut is an actual service.

I'm a lolfat and the Sonic within walking distance to my house (I drive because lolfat) just prompted me to tip for the first time today.

I give a 10% tip to places like Sonic or if I am picking up food I ordered…I don't tip for picking up auto parts.

Tipping at Sonic is stupid. There is zero difference in service to the customer with Sonic than any other drive thru place, absolutely no difference at all.

Your food is brought to your window, just like at McDonald's.

no, at McDonald's you wait in drive thru line. At sonic, you can choose to not wait in a line of cars in order to get your order in and be served food more quickly, but then someone has to bring it out to your car, simply because you didn't want to wait in the drive thru line.

You've been to sonic right?

I can walk inside a McDonald's at get my food faster than the drive thru. All you're doing is tipping someone for walking 10 feet to your car.

I park at the stall that is furthest away. I don't want people seeing how much I order and eat. How much I order and eat is between me and the carhop.

Y'all a buncha cheapasses. A coupla bucks isn't going to break you.

Nowadays, so few people actually want to work, I overtip just to reward them for actually showing up to work instead of relying on the government to support them.

To go orders are a bigger pain in the ass and require more work than customers sitting down to eat

1. No, bagging a to go order does not require more work than being somebody's waiter for an hour. That's just stupid and false.

2. I acknowledge it does require some effort, which is why I said I might do 5%.

So the next time you're at McDonald's and they tell you to pull into one of the parking spots, and someone brings your food to you, I hope you tip them for their walk to your car.

I waited tables and pulled shifts putting out to-go orders at times. I am currently a partner in a restaurant. You can think it's stupid and false if that makes you feel better about being cheap, but it's 100% accurate in most cases

Exactly. Almost every time I go to McDonald's they tell me to pull up to the parking spot and I watch as 10 people behind me get their food before someone gets out to me with my order. It's discrimination and I won't tip for it.

The person bringing your food out to your car at McDonalds had zero to do with the length of time it took to get your food just like the person you tip at Sonic had zero to do with you getting your food quicker than the drive thru. Sounds to me like you're tipping the wrong person at Sonic.

no, I'm basing my decision to tip on whether or not I want to be lazy and have someone bring me food, while also saving time. I can park and go in, or I can drive through. Both take more time and/or effort.

Man I thought you had this figured out. You're regressing.

Would you venture a guess that your profits would be greater if your business didn't have to deal with all those pesky taxes and employee benefits and stuff?
