Got my bill today and it's 35% more than the same month last year. I never even set my AC below 80 in the day even though I work from home.

Ridiculous.

80 degrees? Ours never goes above 74 and that's when we are gone.

My neighbor across the street just got a $335 electric bill….for their vacant house that's up for sale and A/C stays set on 78 degrees and little light and no appliance usage.

Why is the thermostat set at 78 if the house is vacant?

No previous bill and 73 day billing period. I'm guessing something outside the usual going on to cause that bill. Construction electrical usage? New meter setup fee/tax?

You don't want the AC off because it circulates air and dehumidifies the house. If you leave it off, things will get musty and mildewy pretty quick.

Mine for June and July was $240. 2100 SF. Thermostat at 74/75 pretty constantly.

Showings and humidity. We are in SW LA. The most humid place in America.

If the A/C isn't on in these old historic houses you'll actually have moisture accumulate on surfaces.

I'm in the same situation. My usages down 26% from last year. My bill is up over 26% from last year.

$152 for July.

High efficiency HVAC system, two story, 2100 sq ft and our up front purchase cost was ~ $10,000. We also use ceiling fans and we had at or near 100 degree days all month. Normal AC bill would run $250 plus. We live in a high desert but nighttimes have not been cool this year.

From a town official today. Glad they addressed it.

***FYI***
So I've had people calling or coming in asking about electricity. Figured I would just post a lil information.
The Town of Welsh charges 7.52 cents per kilowatt hr. This is a set price and will not change. However when the town is billed for electricity we also get a second bill for "fuel adjustment" from the provider. This is the adjusted price for the fuel used to produce our electricity. This price average out to another $.06 per kWh, compared to .02 in May. That's tripled if I did my math right. The Town of Welsh makes no profit on the fuel surcharges we just cover our cost. So you guys know, the towns fuel adjustment bill was over $350,000 (up from $145,000 in May) this past billing statement. That's on top of the electrical bill. There is no way the town can cover that cost without passing it on. I just wanted to share this info and maybe help you understand. Btw, city officials do not get a break, between my business and home my electricity bills were over $1,400. We are all in the same boat.

I stayed in Welsh one night after an LSU game in the 90's. Friend's dad lived there.

Nice place for the several hours I was there!

About $85 for the house, garage apartment, and barn. Perks of having no AC, I suppose. Our propane bill during the winter eats up any electric savings, though.
