When I ordered it two years ago, I thought I'd be driving it by now.

Saw a Rivian yesterday; it looked really nice.

Disclaimer: I live in a state where gas is >$6/gal.

Man, I would be waiting on one if it looked like literally any vehicle from this planet. I just couldn't get on board with the style of the Cybertruck.

I do want to see them driving around though. Sorry for your wait.

I am waiting on a tri motor version which I hear musk might make quad motor?

I still can't decide if I love or hate it.

My assumption has been that the final delivered model will look different than the concept. Is that not right?

Why would you expect Tesla to deliver on any promised timeline? Take their expected delivery date, add two years, and that's the earliest you could possibly hope to take delivery of something along the lines of hand built prototype quality, complete with misaligned panels, missing hardware, and latent design and manufacturing flaws that will take months for Tesla to take responsibility for if they ever do.

And your utility rates will increase faster than gasoline.

I put a deposit down and am happily waiting it out. My current truck is paid off and doing fine so I'm in no hurry to spend $75k or more.

Did they put deposits down in 1956 for self driving turbine cars, an interstate system with control towers, and pre-digested food at hotels?

I got my truck. Yeah it only gets 15 mpg, but it'll actually haul crap for 300 Miles and pull **** out of the mud…

You'd have to believe some pretty catastrophic things are going to happen to energy markets if you think there's a shot in hell that gas will ever be cheaper than electric on a per mile basis.

A Cybertruck is estimated to get 2.5 miles/kWh. At $.12/kWh in Texas you'd have to get down to $.86/gal to get comparable cost per mile for an 18 mpg truck. Or alternatively at $4/gal gas the price per kWh would have to jump to $.55/kWh.

Electric prices have fallen relative to inflation over the last 20 years.

More taxing on an electrical grid that cant sustain millions of people charging their cars at the same time every night will cause electricity to go up. I dont think people realize how much maintenance batteries are. Youll have to replace parts on your car quite frequently i bet and those wont be cheap. Overall i still bet EV's will be much more expensive in the long run.

Same for me. I reserved one just to see what they look like at production and make a decision then.

Think you underestimate the battery management system in a Tesla. Their average battery capacity reduction over the first 200,000 miles is still at 90%. The batteries going into the Cybertruck are rated for even more charge/discharge cycles than the 18650's that are in the Model S and Model X in this report. They rate batteries for a 20% degradation in capacity and the expectation is 300-500k miles for their new generation battery before that occurs. The stuff around the battery/drivetrain is going to wear out before the battery and drivetrain.

Maintenance/part replacement is way more expensive for combustion vehicles. People assume a shaky grid because we haven't made substantial investments over the last 20 years, because electricity demands have actually been flat per person over the last ~20 years. We have improved our grid in the past at a rate fast enough to keep up with the demands of EVs, and EVs aren't going to happen overnight.

EVs can mean a better grid, better roads, and cheaper transportation.

EVs eat up tires pretty quickly, but that seems like a small trade for the performance and other benefits to the right user.

Never understood the irrational hate for EVs. It's like the poster above saying how his truck can haul heavy loads for 300 miles. Obviously, the Cybertruck is not for him. It's like dogging a Honda Accord because you can't take it off-road and rock crawl.

Don't like EVs, don't buy one.

Engineering Explained had the best video on the Hummer EV. It is the EV that has a ridiculous curb weight and energy consumption, but it also has a lot of cool and thought-out features that you end up loving it.

Watch enough EV off road tests and you realize any dual motor EV with modest ground clearance can be a good off road vehicle

My only problem with EVs is government mandates forcing certain kinds of gas powered vehicles out of the market. CAFE regulations for fuel economy give Trucks and SUVs less weight towards the fleet average than passenger cars. So the passenger cars with the worst fuel economy (sports and muscle cars) are the first to get cut even though they may get better fuel economy than the trucks and SUVs. They are the low hanging fruit that manufacturers can cut to increase their arbitrarily weighted CAFE fleet average. This has resulted in many manufacturers making their first target planning to replace all of their performance oriented vehicles with EVs.

While I think EVs will eventually make great daily drivers and some will make good sports/performance cars for certain people, it's not the flavor of sports car many of us prefer. There's more to the experience for many of us than instant torque and acceleration. I like torquey and smooth for a daily driver, but in a weekend sports car, I want a raw, visceral naturally aspirated engine that will rev to the moon and preferable comes with a manual transmission. That's what makes those cars fun to me. A combination of those features makes for a very visceral and engaging experience. For many people I'm sure a fast EV that makes no noise, requires little driver inputs, but accelerates very quickly is what they prefer, but that's not me or many others like me.

I don't like that the government is mandating choices be removed from the market. I happily welcome EVs to be sold alongside more traditionally powered vehicles, but replacing them entirely will destroy a hobby for many of us. If you like EVs great, buy one, just don't take away my ability to buy the kind of vehicle I want due to progressive fear mongering. Just one more good and fun thing that liberals want to ruin. Their tyrannical mandates make me hope that their mass adoption of EVs dreams are crushed from economies of scale.

The industry is changing, but enthusiasts aren't going anywhere. A new generation are already starting to build performance EV's from salvage parts and more and more companies are offering off the shelf solutions for high performance drive systems and batteries. They aren't and won't be everything for everyone, but technology is getting better every day.

Old vehicles are old and will only get older, more fragile, more scarce, and values will increase making them to risky to flog on the street.. Not the same as buying new. I'm happy for EV enthusiasts that their market is expanding. They should quit advocating for the eradication of gas vehicles. Electric sports cars are not the future for me. I'll never pay a single red cent for an EV that isn't a daily driver. People are trying to stop me from buying new gas cars and those people totally stuck and need to mind their own business.

It is the government requirements forcing this direction.

The only thing you gain is power production polluting somewhere else instead of on highways, but it pollutes nonetheless.

Never more thankful I bought a Diesel because I don't have to deal with the stupid PITA energy saver button everytime I get in the car.

Get rid of DEF and bring back diesel sedans if you care about increased mileage across fleets.
