Do you tip at restaurants where you have to go get your food from the counter and your own drinks and condiments? If yes, why …..

If there's a digital option to tip, yes. Usually just a dollar. If I have to go into any store on Christmas day I'll also give the employee a cash tip regardless of the store.

Concession stands at football games now have a tip option that all of them have gone cashless.

Yeah let me leave a tip at a concession stand lol

If they're not delivering the food/drink to me, I tip the cashier for recommending an item to me (I ask and they seem happy to help) or if the barista is making a difficult (not drip coffee pour) item. So when my wife order her latte for example, I tip a little.

All of this is predicated on the fact we often eat downtown at mom and pop places in our town and I feel good supporting them above and beyond the required cost of the sale.

I guess I don't see the harm in leaving a buck for someone else. It's not going to break me but could add up for someone working an hourly job.

Tips are for strippers, valets, bartenders, and cleaning staff.

I went to two Ranger baseball games this year. (Rangers vs Astros & free tickets,). You are asked to pay by credit/debit card for concessions and there is a spot to add a tip.

How cheap is that?

Never.

I am against tipping in general. I know this crowd here loves to show off that they tip a lot. Tipping is against capitalism. It is socialism. I am not responsible to pay anyone's room and board. They can increase menu prices if they want. Or the wait staff can go find another job that pays more.

If I pick up, I never tip. If I am at a sit-down place, I tip 18-20% if service is acceptable. There has been a time or two when service was terrible (waitress banged down the food and made faces) and I gave her 0%. She can go F herself with that attitude.

I tip well, but usually not for counter service. They're getting a full wage, not 2.15 an hour like a full time server. Maybe I'll tip lightly at a place like Freebirds where there is more interaction/customization and I routinely see the same workers. I definitely tip decently for takeout at a full service restaurant.

I like the tipping system...gives power to the customer to reward/penalize the quality of service. Servers obviously know this, so the good ones provide better service than they probably ordinarily would if they had no incentive. Plus, prices would definitely go up across the board if restaurants had to pay a full wage.

Why tip someone for a job I'm capable of doing myself? I can deliver food, I can drive a taxi, I can and do cut my own hair. I did, however, tip my urologist. Because I am unable to pulverize my own kidney stones.

The worst scammers are those restaurants who surreptitiously add a "gratuity" to the bill, and then leave open an area for "Tip". So they hope to get tipped twice??? I have seen this at bars where patrons are too drunk to realize.

If they own the shop they dont have to give a cut to the shop and it all goes to them. I always do but lately I've gone to a one man show and don't feel like its necessary.

Yep, normally 25% but I'll double the bill at Christmas. My barber is awesome. They left the original shop and opened up their own place so I followed them.

But if he owns the shop he sets the price and thinks it is fair. He doesn't have to give a cut to the shop like barbers who work for other people do. I still do it too but it doesn't make any sense to me and I am leaning towards not tipping the sole proprietor barbers.
