I ended up making my way towards Tomatillo's pretty often. They just closed down their Broadway location. Will have to check out their new place soon up north.

Big fan of El Bucanero, but it's a bit different.

Blanco Cafe
Rosario's
El Mirasol
Aldaco's

Always loved Jalisco Grill on Blanco basically across from Longhorn Cafe in a little retail strip. One of my favorite breakfasts. If you don't want a Mexican breakfast they make some of the best pancakes I've ever had.

If you're in the N St Mary's area, Chela's is pretty good. Their pozole is solid

Does anyone remember the name of the place I went to a long time ago on the near north side of town to meet some old journalist? It was a one story brick building, kind of dark and cozy inside. I think they had red vinyl/leather seating. Learned to appreciate a fried egg on top of my enchiladas there. I don't remember the name of the restaurant or the old man, and I'm not sure the restaurant is still there. Hope this helps.
I was surprised to find nobody in the OKC area where I live now knew of fried eggs on enchiladas. When I lived in the DFW area, I could always find a great little Mexican food restaurant that would serve fried eggs on enchiladas. Just another reason for me to move back to Texas, my favorite state in this whole Republic.

I helped open up the second location which was branded at Santone's up by UTSA. I know it closed long long ago but was good. Surprised it didn't last due to the success of Tomatillo's), but must have been location. Other local haunts was Alamo Cafe and for fast food Sombrero Rosa (awesome after the bars closed). I clearly just dated myself.

I was able to try Tomatillos' new location last month. Food was still good. Atmosphere is way different. Bar area is larger and better for game watching, but the whole place lost its character from the Broadway location.

The one in Irving? I absolutely LOVE that place. Fantastic food and I was always able to order my fried eggs and enchiladas. Right up near 183 and Beltline if I recall.

God I miss Texas so much.

I'm sorry, I was referring to a DFW restaurant and it's a SA thread. My apologies folks.

Aw man that's kind is sad and creepy, but at least you went out to the bars to at least try and meet someone.

Can confirm La Fonda is sub-par now. Food's average enough these days, but the restaurant itself is like feeding time at the assisted living home. 20-30 years ago it was one of the best in SA.

Jacala is great.
