Really enjoyed ribbing him about his sip MBA being featured when he was interviewed on TV.

RIP in Chris.

Damn.

I've already lost far too many of my Marine buddies. I come from the Special Ops community and when you are in its like you are flying along at Mach 2. You are always uncomfortable, wet, tired, sandy, dirty, hungry, sore, far from home etc. We have a saying 'Embrace the Suck' because as long as you are dealing with the pain, you are exactly where you are supposed to be. You are part of a team who is looking out for you and you for them.

When it's over, you feel like you are moving backwards at 100 miles an hour. Out of control. You feel guilt. You can't understand it or explain it. And you see faces and remember smells that CANNOT get out of your head.

You drive on with daily routine but it's hard to get through the most frickin routine stuff.

I sure hope and pray he had a bunch of good times, and any of you that knew him had a chance to tell him how you feel about him.

Semper Fidelis. Fair Winds and Following Seas. Your mission is now complete. No more pain my brother.

I will see you in Valhalla !

Looks like Chris has given most of us some type of meaningful advice. I once introduced him to then my girlfriend. Dumb as a rock asian with the finest of fakers. Not at all amused he looked right at me in disgust and told me "you can do better". As usual he was right.

Poster checking in from the 2001-2008ish time frame. I had many different names back then as I got banned a lot when I would get black out drunk and post whatever came to my mind…..

Which is why Chris got a kick out of me. We went to many HH together and he tailgated with us frequently. He called our crew the "Longview Wild Bunch" as half of the core friend group was from Longview.

We reconnected this year over Investment talk and general macro environment thoughts. He was wildly intelligent, but unlike A LOT of high IQ people, he was street smart too. We talked about going to the Aged Puss game in Oxford but never spoke again after we traded messages.

He always had a smile and a smart ass comment about my drinking back in those days. Distance largely drives canyons between people and we fell out of touch for a decade or so until this year. I'm mad at myself for not keeping in better touch with him as the Summer went by and Football season approached.

I think I'll go on that Oxford trip and pour one out for him.

I hadn't talked to him in years, but thought of him from time to time. Really wish I would have reached out and said hello or just checked in. It was hard today to delete his phone number from my phone. He taught me to drink scotch, so tonight having one in his honor.

Cheers, Chris.

I took out my old O'Bannon's mug tonight and filled it with a badass Belgian beer. I haven't used it in years.

We always had a love-hate relationship, but the older I got the more common ground we found. We only met once, had lunch at Freebirds, and I don't know if he ever actually liked me (not kidding lol), but I learned to love his persona and respected his intelligence. I'm incredibly saddened by the news.

I hung out with Chris a few times back in the day - Houston happy hours or less formal gatherings, a few tailgates, and a few times around BCS. I would always text him on Veterans Day to thank him for his service and to wish him well, and he always replied with a few good words of his own. I randomly thought about him on Saturday evening and made a mental note to remember to text him this year. I hate that I won't get to send that text anymore.

I had just thought of him maybe a week ago. I really wish I would have contacted him or tried to.

One of his most impressive qualities, to me, was how giving of his time he was. Especially, young AgEcon students. He sought out opportunities to give back and help others whenever he could. So generous.

WRONG EMOGI.

Praying for his family.

We used to give each other a ton of shot online. It was in jest, at least on my part. I hope he knew that.

From one of his closest friends, if he didn't aporeciate you, he wouldn't have wasted much time on you. If he was bickering with you on here, it was because he appreciated what you were bringing.

I struggle to think this is true. I've met him several times for dinner/drinks. This hits home. What a huge hole in the Aggie community.

Whoa. My next to last post on TA was from that weekend in 2013 when I said:

"Had a great time hanging out with Scimitar last night at the NY A&M Club game watching party. He has the hook-up and got us the best table in the whole place. Thanks, Sci!"

Right in the feels!!!

I started attending these in fall 2013. Only went to a few but it's too bad I never met him. We might have been at the same ones a few times.

I first met Chris with the Dallas Happy Hour group back in 2005 and stayed close to him ever since. I called him on Wednesday to check in, asking him about his doctorate program and the paper he was writing. I offered to be interviewed or to be consulted for his paper as there was overlap between his topic and my field of expertise.

Knew Chris from way back when we were in the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys as students on campus. Yeah, there's probably a lot of folks that didn't know mr GQ rodeo'd in college but he was a bronc rider. Saw him get bucked off more than he rode as I remember but he was living life and there for the adventure.
Had some great bible studies together back then. Good thought provoking conversations.
We didn't stay in touch through the years other than a few howdy's on TA but I enjoyed following what he was doing and seeing the fun he had and what he accomplished.
Makes my heart sad. Wish he could have read this thread and known how much he was loved and appreciated. Praying for family and all the friends who have a Chris shaped hole in their heart right now.
RIP brother.

I'm going to miss our bantering on ****ter about economics and life in general. It was always a good time and he was great to bounce my asinine questions off of.

He's one of the few people who understood the deeper parts of my questions and the global ramifications behind them. I'm really going to miss that.

Just today, I'd love to engage him on the transitory inflation debate. He was all behind transitory and I am staunchly in the long-term camp.

Long story short, have known Chris since about 2010 or so, but we had drinks in NYC when up there for the Macy's Parade the other year, and at tailgates then when he moved to W. TN and we live in E. TN we got see him more. Called and texted a lot. Were supposed to meet up in Nashvegas soon...

Was honored he considered me an uncle.

Pic for May 2020 up in Gatlinburg with Aparna, my bride of 46+ years and me.

Kinda blurry, but so has been my vison since Sat. when I found out right after the game...

Here. Dammit.

Those were great days, and even being so long ago it doesn't make this any easier.

I truly don't have the words right now. The world needs more people like him...especially right now.

Godspeed, old friend.
