I remember when you could insult someone for batting for the other team and not get doxxed

When you could play "smear the queer" and it all it was was tackle the man with the football

When you could play outside till the street lights came on

When homeless people didn't have tents

When people still respected the police

When we didn't have to worry about women in military

Those were the good ol' days

People had some self respect, you wore a suit and tie to dig a ditch
Every child loved their parents unconditionally and asked for more beatings instead of food
You could get a union job and guaranteed lifetime support straight out of high school or,
You could go to college for $6.75 a semester and they'd throw in a wife from the teacher's college up the road
Your 12 year old kid could ride a motorcycle to the next town to buy you booze and cigarettes
*****houses
Etc.

when i was in high school here in CS in the late 70's, the "ropers" used to park their trucks along the street of A&M Consolidated.
Many of them had shotguns/rifles attached to a gun rack that was attached to the back of their cab on a designated gun rack. Nobody thought anything about them as long as they were in plain view. Heck, most of these same pickup trucks were likely left unlocked.
Now, the owner of these trucks will be arrested & charged with being a criminal with this same scenario.

Progressive women used to think they wanted to fight for their rights and be equal.

Now progressive women cheer on mentally challenged men who pretend to be women after self-chosen mutilation.

It is a strange world, I tell ya. Times have changed.
Times haven't changed, just more fools and idiots!!!!!

Milk being delivered to your house
Having your gas pumped for you, oil checked, and windshield cleaned when you just needed gas.
White tube socks to just under your knee.
Pay phones were a dime.
45's on your record player.
The long coiled phone cord you would stretch into the next room to try and talk to your girlfriend.
Nobody wore seat belts. Even kids.
You might get beat up but not shot or killed.
Rifles in the racks of trucks in the school parking lot.

I came here to say this.

Hitchhiking was common.
Riding in the back of pickup trucks was never even a second thought.
Getting licks at school for misbehaving.
Pay phones.
Punching holes in the top of a beer can with a can opener to drink said beer.
Then pull tabs replacing that.
Cigarette commercials on TV.
Nothing in plastic bottles. Broken glass was all over roads and parking lots.
TV stations signing off for the night with the national anthem.
Two keys for a vehicle. One to unlock the doors, one to start the car.
Kids in the car by themselves with windows rolled down in parking lots
Cigarette smoke everywhere. Then eventually smoking and non smoking sections in restaurants.
Ash trays were ubiquitous.
Leaded gas, then eventually leaded and unleaded pumps at gas stations.
Riding bikes in the DDT cloud that was being sprayed from the truck fumigating the neighborhood.

How absolutely prevalent smoking was. I remember going to Astros games in the Dome as a kid and there was always a haze of smoke above the field by game's end. Cigarette vending machines in restaurants and I'm sure elsewhere but it is where I noticed them.. Smoking on flights. My freshman year was the last year that my high school had an outdoor smoking section for students.

Media used to report the news instead of an agenda. Times have changed
Not as new as you think. Back in the days of 3 over the air networks, 2 big newspapers, and 2 major news wire organizations, there was plenty of agenda driven democratic propaganda. We just didn't have other ways of getting the information to know we were being misled. Having cable news channels with a different ideological slant and internet blogs pulled the veil back on it, but it was far from new when they showed us that it was happening.
You clearly weren't around when Walter Cronkite delivered the news with no agenda.

People dressed up for church and wore ties to work.
No one really wore seatbelts and station wagon seats faced the rear of the car.
It was a big deal when cassette players replaced 8-track tapes.
Pro sports team names correlated to something unique about their hometown.
Pizza was always eaten at the restaurant.
High schoolers worked on their own cars and everyone went cruising on weekends.
The girls, oh the girls.

Fax machine came into popular use when I was in college in the late-80s. They were expensive to use because the thermal paper was expensive, and phone companies still charged for long distance calls. They were a quick way to send documents.

Last time I used a fax machine with regularity was 2006. Everyone emails documents these days, and charging for long distance is unheard of.

But I still wonder how we did business before fax machines.

Is this not still the case, for the most part? With the exception of a handful of teams who moved and didn't change their name?
