Cat person here (well, I love dogs too, just don't have one right now); Chester ain't an ugly dog and you did a great thing by adopting him. Thanks for posting this stuff here. Glad I finally clicked this thread. Can't believe I missed it.

When i first got him he was INCREDIBLY fearful. Afraid of everything. Bikes, people, wind. I dont think he had ever been outside in his life till the SPCA got him. He is much more brave now.

Also, he had some resource guarding tendencies the first couple of weeks, but they have since gone away. That is likely a result of being in the pound with a kennel mate and having to share food.

Overall I guess i would say that he just has more of a personality in general now. He's kind of gotten comfortable in his new home and knows hes safe; so he lets his guard down. He plays with more gusto too.

Wife and I got a dog this year too. First one we've either had as an adult, though both had them growing up and both our parents still have dogs.

Amazing how fast they grow. 11 pounder when we got him in feb, 55 now.
