Had to think about that one a bit as I proscribe to the "prize number" method and not the left to right 1 to N method, but in this case the results are identical.

Prize or place number method:
Start left to right, and award a "prize medal" like Alyson gets third place, Tara gets second, Shannon gets first, Mena gets 4th. You state your prize order left to right.
Or, the left to right numbering method, you number them 1,2,3,4... left to right in your head, then state the personal ranking using that numbering assignment. Alyson is 1, Tara 2, Shannon 3, Mena 4, and he ranked them 3,2,1,4.
In this case, it works out the same for the first posted numbering order above. The second method is for people who need to make things needlessly complex.

This. Everyone knows the prize number method is correct.
Actually, I'd guess we could show a pretty good correlation between a poster's choice of ranking system and background in animal agriculture.
