I run preouts from a Yamaha Dolby surround receiver through an Adcom 5x100 amp. That feeds a Mirage center channel, PSB surrounds and Vandersteen 2CE Sigs for mains. Those are actually biwired. There is also a Mirage bipolar 150 amp sub. When I want music only and drop to 2 channels the Vandersteens kill it.

So yes, wired speakers are still a thing.

Vandersteens. Only commercial pair with first order crossovers for minimum phase error and exact time_domain.

Noice.

Currently enjoying some tunes with my AKG K7XX headphones out of a Schiit amp and DAC. The headphones were $200 but they sound like they cost much more with the right gear behind them.

Ive heard that is a nice set up. I can't justify spending what you do on gear. I try to shoot for best value since I have to pay for kids' shoes. My AKG's are Y50's. They are more high end everyday listening but the sound is way above their price point. My Beyerdynamics are DT770 pro's. Very loud with the treble but really clear. I play drums and i like to be able to hear the nuances if the cymbals. Also have a pair of Aiwa Arc-1 Bluetooth headphones. Again, sound way better than their price. Warm sound and very accurate reproduction.

How much money do you have in amps and headphones?

I've been in the headphone hobby for about 4 years so this wasn't all at once. I have just over $4k in amps, DACs, and headphones. Single though, no kids.

I definitely don't need $4k worth of gear. Need to sell some stuff.

If I were in your situation I would probably have $1000 headphones also.

For his 1, 2 and 3 models he puts the money into the guts and not the wood veneer.

Have boxes in storage with old 90's receiver, tower speakers and a gazillion CDs.

Don't know what to do with it.

I still have a Nakamichi, but it's a CD-45Z head unit in the car.

I wired my place for 6.1 which is pretty uncommon, but the system gets used every time the TV comes on or I listen to music so I'm definitely getting my money's worth.

edit: for people with older systems that want to tie them in with newer TVs and other components I've got bad news. That's where your older, run a million wires, multiple remotes thing would still apply and there isn't that much of a market for older pre-ARC receivers because it's kind of a pain in the ass.

With a newer receiver that has ARC all that goes away. You connect consoles, blu ray players, and whatever else to the receiver (typically HDMI so one cord per) and then run only one HDMI cable from there to the TV. Turn on the TV, the receiver comes on automatically and plays whatever you're watching through the good speakers. Same if you fire up a game console or whatever else.
