Have both Tecovas and Lucchese and have to say that the Tecovas feel like a better made boot and feel better at the end of a long day.

I got a pair recently at a warehouse sale. $175 for good looking boots and got my wife a nice bag. They arent work boots, more for dress. I like them. Haven't worn them much yet, but they look good.

What is now referred to as the "western" or, as city folks call "cowboy boots" was originally designed and developed for simply riding horses. In fact the Spaniish Vaquero' s actually brought the design with them. I have been wearing boots since I was 11 and I am in my 60's now. I don't even own a pair of dress shoes and have worn western style boots for work or business and casual wear for over 40 years........ I do, however, own two pairs of hiking/ walking shoes and two pairs of lace up snake boots.
I have either had Tony Lamas, Luchesse, or custom made boots ( Littles Boot Company in SA) in my adult life. Because I wear them everyday, not just occasionally, ..... I can say I have tried other brands ( Including Tecovas, Dan Post, etc.) that simply don't hold up to wearing them everyday use.
A podiatrist my dad goes to told him that if a person spends a lot of time wearing boots .... the riding heel is much better for the arch of your foot and helps prevent plantar fasciitis......and if you do spend anytime in the saddle is a much safer heel than the " English Style" flat heel.
I agree with you that some style of " boots" pre date horses........maybe even the cave man hand crafted them.

I enjoy my Tecovas and my Lucchese. I don't agree that the Tecovas feel more premium but I wear them more often cause they were less than half the price.
the_batman26: I guess yall need this, its something to take pride in. At least the Feds trusted us with the Space Center; and I seem to recall the Feds not having the best time in Dallas.

I have several pair of Lucchese and several pair of Tecovas. I like both, but my Tecovas are much more comfortable, and I get compliments on my Tecovas almost each time I wear them. My wife now has 3 pair of Tecovas, and she insists we stop at a Tecovas store whenever we are close to one.

I bought two pairs of tecovas - both wore out within a year of 2x/week wear. I like how they look and they were comfortable but certainly city boots that wear out quickly. There were useless for ranch work.

Anybody willing to spend Lucchese kind of money on boots who is anywhere near Houston owes it to themselves to visit Ricca Boots in Tomball.

http://www.riccabootshop.com/

Ryan Ricca's grandfather started the place in the 70's inside a building that's been there since about 1917 (think they claim Jesse James stayed there one night). Truly hand made right there on site with exact measurements taken from both feet. I've met Ryan many times and he's just a neat kid. I rarely make recommendations, but this is one I have no hesitation about. Do yourself a favor and go see him. You'll have a great Texas story to tell that will only be surpassed by the quality of the boots.

But they're more comfortable for those of us with wide flat duck feet.

If you wear boots that aren't made of rubber or don't have steel toe you don't have a reason to be wearing boots.

I have a pair of Tecovas and a couple of Justin Ropers - generally wear the Tecovas every day - seems they are cut a bit smaller then the ropers - I think the Tecovas are about 2 years old, have held up to everyday wear real well

I have a pair of Granite Suede Tecovas. They're awesome. I bought them because it was the color I wanted. They're comfortable and go with jeans and a tshirt or a nice button down.

And for some of you that are harping on others about them "not" being country enough....

I've never met so many wanna be country boys in my life than at A&M. I laugh because some good friends of mine grew up in Plano or some of the richer parts of Houston. Somewhere along the way they decided they were "country", drank Natty Light and dipped. I think Bonfire influenced them. Lol... probably the first time they worked a day in their life outside and most likely never set foot on a ranch, baled hay, fed cattle, built fences....(you get the point).

I really like my pair and will probably purchase a couple more. I get a ton of compliments on them. They always catch peoples attention and I always get asked what kind they are and if they're comfortable. I do have some friends, like some of you, don't approve of them but I don't need a particular brand to make up my style. I have style and if I didn't then they would inquire about my boots.

I like how you casually shift from how you're a real rancher and all your friends are poseurs to sounding like a TV commercial claiming you get compliments and asked about them all the time. You're a middle aged man. Nobody has complimented or inquired about your footwear for 15+ years.

I don't & never claimed to be a rancher. I grew up in a small town and did some work on a ranch but nothing like some of my friends growing up. They're actual ranchers but they don't get worked up on what brand they wear. Most of them won't spend Lucchese prices. I joked about my college friends and some of my friends that I hang around with nowadays here in Austin. I just bought my pair last year. And yes, I always got compliments over the years, I just didn't wear cowboy boots.

Got some Tecovas. The Cartwright in Calfskin Bourbon color.
Also got a suede belt just for buying the boots. A $75 free throw in... not sure why a belt costs $75 to begin with.
I'm happy with the boots and I think they will break in and patina up nice and dark.

If it was real leather and you like it, that's not bad. Free is really not bad.

Since April and I wear these twice a week to work. They do break in and the color has not changed for me, I need to get some polish and clean them. The shine on them has faded a bit
