anybody have any good recommendations? i want more candids than posed, more B&W than color, prefer a photojournalistic type of a style.

preferably someone who doesn't cost more than my second car did. rae ellis does great work, but i fear she is too expensive.

My photographer and her husband do the Houston and College Station area. Her prices have gone up a bit since I was one of her first customers, I'm not sure exactly how much she charges now. Her style is exactly as you describe, though. You might want to check her website out.

Hey! I suggest Evoke--they are photojournalistic in style and rather reasonably priced.
But, for what you mentioned wanting above--expect to pay at least $2,500. In my experience--the better photographers cost at least that!

When she did mine I did not get an album because I wanted to make mine on my own. (I'm a scrapbooker, and picky, so I wanted to do mine )

Yes, I like Memoir, too! I was going to use them for my bridal portraits (when I was planning on taking them in CS) but, TCLTC....you choices for location were MUCH better, IMO!

Nolan Conley did ours too.

His claim to fame is taking the first nude shots of Anna Nicole Smith.

Also, you might look into Third Wheel Productions. They do very photojournalistic pics and most are candids. Both Sonny and Eric (who's an Aggie) take beautiful pictures.

If you are still thinking of having the ceremony in Galveston, try Creative Photography. They've been doing our events since 1987.

We used and were extremely pleased with Wayne at Photography by Design. www.pbyd.com We were looking for photojournalistic and B&W and he did a great job and was comparibly cheaper than many others.

I would presonally NOT recommend Creative Photography--they are WAY to overpriced. Even my brother-in-law said that--and Manny (from CP) WAS his photographer. Everyone that I talked to during my planning said he was WAY OVERRATED!
Just my two cents.

We haven't used them since 1994, so they may have gone up. But Manny has done an Eagle Scout Ceremony, 2 Graduations, 3 parties and a wedding for us with no complaints.

i have a friend that does photography. hes does LOTS of weddings, in fact hes booked almost every weekend this summer already.

Huy Nguyen did my college roomates wedding in December. He is based out of Dallas but he did traveled to Tulsa for his wedding. The photos turned out great and he makes the photos available to everyone on their own website. He took a ton of pictures. Huy also did Dat Nguyen's wedding. I am not sure about rates. You won't be disappointed.

The photographer failed to show up at my sister's wedding and I was told to get my camera out of the car and start snapping pictures ASAP. To complicate matters, it was a brand new camera and it was the first time I had used it. So, the ceremony was one groomsman short, and I was running around taking pictures of everybody, figuring if I took a few hundred pictures, the law of averages says I would get about thirty or forty keepers. As it turned out, there were a ton of good pictures, and I dropped them off at the one hour place just after the reception and my sister and her husband picked them up on their way out of town.

I retired from the wedding photogrpahy biz after that, but it turned out okay.

Yes, Michael Carr is very good...but my friend who used them spent over $6K!

spend the money on important things, like your stepkids college. go to a photography/art school and find someone to do it for a fraction of the cost.
