Pluckers? My god. Lived in Texas my whole life and didn't even realize Pluckers started here. How Shiner barely won is pathetic.

As for ultimate texas icon as far as stuff like this goes, I gotta say it's Shiner. Come on. Whoever posted Lonestar ... that's owned by Bud or some such.
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

I saw about 10 Dr. Pepper Fansville commercials during every nationally televised college football game I watched over the past two years.

That kind of money wouldn't be spent on a state- or regional-specific product.

I looked at the Texas Monthly article and I was surprised at how many of the "contenders" are really "Texas only" brands. To me, iconic implies that it is a nationally recognized brand that is distinctive for its Texas roots. An example for another state would be would be L.L. Bean for Maine, or Coors Beer for Colorado. I think Dr. Pepper meets that standard for Texas, but it would be rare for any state to have more than two or three brands that qualify.

King Ranch is not a brand it's a place, same goes for the loser who said the Astrodome.

Others mentioned Exxon, Frito-Lay, and AT&T, while those are major corporations I don't think anyone associates them with Texas culture.

For me it's a tie between Whataburger and Shiner.

If King Ranch isn't a brand, I guess I don't know what their catalog sells. Don't forget about the King Ranch Ford Trucks.
