Any recs for this? Prefer a nice steak place or the like.

Probably needs to be able to handle +/-80 people.

Parents live there and had my wedding there. I did mine at Navajo Grill and my sister had hers at Vaudeville. Both were great places and Vaudeville on the high side. Not sure what your budget is, but I'd look at those two as well as Crossroads. If you want more relaxed and outdoors, maybe Hondo's.

Congrats on getting married. Fredricksburg is such a cute town. Hondos is a good place but would for sure be on the "relaxed" side.

I think a rehearsal dinner in Fredericksburg would be pretty neat! I think I'd even have to take a side trip to Enchanted Rock via the Willow City Loop.

"The most important part of a rehearsal dinner is the chance it offers for both of your families to spend a little more time together before your wedding day arrives. Encourage people to mix and mingle, and take the opportunity yourselves to squeeze in a little quality time with people you haven't seen in awhile."

For me this is a great opportunity to meet family of the bride in an informal setting. That way the wedding is more relaxed because we have already had an opportunity to meet and get to know each other.

Cabernet Grill would be a solid choice...

(and congrats on the upcoming sex)

You rehearse talking to all of your out of town family. You won't have two minutes to talk to each person at your wedding. Also don't forget to eat at your wedding or you'll just get plastered.

It gives the groomsmen first dibs on bridesmaids. And a chance for the awkward wedding after a one night stand.

Hilltop also, but I would go for Crossroads probably. My favorite of all, but cannot go wrong with any of the suggestions

I like Grape Creek. It's one of my favorite wineries out on the 290 corridor.

https://www.grapecreek.com/

We did a company event there a couple of years ago (about half as many as your party). It included a tour of the wine making area. Very nice. It was a lunch, so the food wasn't as "high end" as you may want to serve, but I think they do ungraded items for dinners. And...the wine in pretty darn good

I've been to Kairos Celebration Barn for a few events.

Joe Grimes always did a good job at reasonable prices. It's just about 10 miles south of Fredericksburg off of Hwy 16. Scenic. Can handle a lot of people.

If you want to go to Kerrville, I recommend Rails. They have a separate event facility. Rustic. Great owners.

They would probably cater to Fredericksburg, if you have a location set up. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Just a few thoughts. (and yes, Cecil is your go to guy about wineries).

I've had some bad experiences at Cabernet Grill (hate to be negative about someone) but maybe they've improved. I haven't been there in at least 3 years.

Just be aware if you're gonna tie up a restaurant for 80 people on a Friday night in Fredericksburg, it's gonna cost you. A. Lot.

It's a dinner for a wedding rehearsal, so "gonna cost you" left the barn a while back.

October 2020. Last one cost me $16k, so I'll assume that it will be similar

If it's the first weekend in October you can forget booking a restaurant. You could do the Texas Ranger Pavilion and cater it, but that might be too similar to the wedding reception?

Navajo can hold 80 in its event area. Several places have the facilities but wont have the staff to do that on a Friday night in October. I used to do rehearsal dinners all the time and they were great, but sadly the new owner runs it quite a bit different than I did. He pays the rent on time though.

16k for the rehearsal dinner?

The last wedding I can remember attending in the area was here:

https://www.historicschools.org/st-john-lutheran-church.html

Google maps says it's about 13 miles north of downtown Fredericksburg, in downtown Crabapple, Texas.Very sweet, moving ceremony. There was a facility on the property where dinner was served. Can't remember who catered.

The mother of the groom hosted the rehearsal dinner at West End Pizza on Main St. There was a more restrictive budget than you're looking at, I reckon, but you know what? Dinner was just fine. Nice words were said. Toasts were made. The food was good. A good time was had by all. And it was fairly casual, even though the wedding party was pretty dressed up.

Edit:

Now that I think about it, I attended a grip-and-grin hosted by Hill Country Memorial Hospital at West End Pizza a couple of years ago. I remember talking to a wine maker that was there...giving me free (and good) wine.

I congratulate you for surviving being in the restaurant business. Especially in Fredericksburg.
