That's just dumb.
Japan is really strict with food (ex. Meat products, fresh fruit/vegetables, other non-processed things) and agriculture imports - both because of the non-native species issue and also because they want to prevent the introduction of pests/diseases. Boyfriend's venison jerkey got confiscated once because the US (or maybe specifically Texas) has had cases of CWD in deer.
