My Dad was a bombardier on a B-17 in WW2. Bombardier sat in the nose of the plane. I got to tour one but never been up in one. After a bombing mission in Germany when they were returning to England they spotted the Bismarck and had one bomb left. He took a shot at it but missed because they had to fly so high to avoid anti-aircraft fire from the ship.

Wtf? Is this some joke? Bismarck was sunk before US entered the war - and why would they head back with one bomb left?

That's awesome!
Didn't get to go down into the Navigator or Bombardiers seats. The FAA in all their wisdom says the passengers riding up there must stay in their seats for the flight. Of course they also pay more for those seats. So us 3rd class passengers up in the radio room and waist gunners positions, though we were allowed to move around and go to the flight deck, weren't allowed down there.
