SPI is IMO by far the best beach in Texas.
Been several times and I have never seen blue water at SPI.

Unless you're from the valley or west Texas ... Destin is pretty comparable drive time wise to SPI

If you live more than an hour from a Texas beach, go somewhere else.

If you live 15 minutes from a Texas beach, go near sunset.

It's pretty easy to find blue water on Texas beaches.
The porta-potties are cleaned weekly, and the blue is deep and rich for the first hour or so

Never had or will have a social media account. I just want the occasion to be romantic and special; she deserves it. Enchanted Rock looks like it will be the place!

The beaches in Texas may be ugly and filled to the brim with white-trash, but at least the water is uncomfortably warm and not at all refreshing.

A couple of years ago we drove about 40 miles down the beach in PINS. It was so peaceful and there was NOBODY in sight. Water was much prettier too. All those damn people up north messing things up.

We go every year for our family vacation. I'm actually serious about retiring on the island. I've been to that Holiday Inn and it IS fun. And I'm a big fan of Scuttlebutts.

Port A is more party central though.

And I agree the beach is only so so but that's what you get if you're in TX. For my turquoise water I'll take trips to St Martin or Belize...

Thanks. I'm looking for good scenic places to propose and I'm thinking of a beach setting. That or the hill country.


Spend the dough and go to South Beach. The Edition(hotel) is perfect and will be unforgettable.

Generally, the water and sand is muddier the closer one gets to the Mississippi Delta.
Have seen Mustang Island and Malaquite Beach be beautiful (including once after a hurricane when the water was clear all the way to the shore) but at other times there is tar and dead seaweed everywhere.

You're dumb if you think Texas beaches are safer than Aruba. Thousands of travelers each year and one tourist gets killed. If only all places were that safe.

I can be out my front door and standing on a beach in less than 3 hours. Once I'm there I have my own place, my own boat, my own bed, clothes that I don't have to pack, toiletries, groceries, etc. I get far more utility out of that than crowded airports, packing suitcases, long flights,checking in/out hotels for only a few days a year.
