He came back too quickly and the change hadn't caught up to him yet. It took like a week for Marty to begin fading away in the first one.

I knew I couldn't blend into the society I was sent back to live. So, I decided to lay low for the time being. My knowledge allowed me to live in the shadows of the deep woods, but I yearned for something more. After a couple of nights of loneliness, I decided to get ready to leave the safety I would eventually yearn for.
