Wife works at the Federal Pen in medical. Hopefully she gets paid or we may go on vacation next week.
I won't get to see my post office worker who is constantly on her phone texting when I come in.

Long story short, I'm actually a little bit stressed.
I'm a DOD contractor scheduled to go train some MHS staff on post next week. The staff is a mix of AD and DOD civilians. Training event might get canceled, who knows. Need to find out who's considered essential/non-essential the next couple of days. What a pain in the ass.
I'm worried about getting purged.

Has the military ever missed a check? I was in over a decade and NEVER remember pay being even A DAY late.
It's not just the paycheck. I'm overseas and AFN is off the air due to it. For me it's just a minor inconvenience but for guys in a combat zone and it's one of the few "reminders of home". Hate to see if the MWR and stuff are shutdown as well.
AFN being down sucks because it's the only English radio station here. Commissaries are closed. Exchanges are funded separably so they stay open. All active duty remain in a duty status, but if Congress doesn't allocate funds by the end of the month, there won't be a pay check. Given that, USAA has in the past said that if the government doesn't have a solution in place, USAA will offer 0% interest advance payroll loans.SPullig said:

AFN is garbage. Without the constant PSA's, the entire military will surely collapse in an orgy of drunk driving, drug use, domestic violence, and suicide.
And for all the government workers freaking out, just enjoy your paid vacation. Again.
^Wife (and many others) are "essential" federal government employees. So they stay on the job, but won't get paid until this is over.

Is the FAA on vacation and if so, is it open season on shooting down drones?

F you. I'm considered essential so I report to work without pay for the civilians across the nation in hopes of eventually getting paid. You have no idea how much it sucks to know a large majority of feds get to stay home (without pay) while I have to work.
I too am active duty, and I do not see how this will affect us until the end of the month, which is a week and a half way. If you have USAA, they will continue to pay you anyway. The commissary will close, but you can pretty much beat their prices for most things at Walmart anyway. This will blow over soon and we will move on, just like every other time this has happened in the past. They just flipped the sign from "Yes we're OPEN" to "Sorry, we're CLOSED."

With the "hope" of getting paid? Won't all employees - even those sent home until this ends - still get back pay for all this time? The checks may be delayed, but you'll still receive it.

It's never guaranteed. But the checks always arrive. Literally every time the government has shut down, people got paid. It won't stop the panic from woe-is-me government employees though.
The likelihood is high that we will get back paid, but nothing is guaranteed. Have you seen the metric sht show that is our government lately?
